Loul Deng and Timothy Mozgov were their biggest FA signings prior to the LeBron era.
And they get more nationally televised games and engagement today than they ever have, including the Shaq and Kobe era.
Kobe left in 2016 and Bron joined the team in 2018. I'm sure than one year was in preparation to sign Bron.
They signed Mozgov and Loul Deng as free agents. That wasn't in preparation of Bron.
Deng (who plays the same position) handicapped the team financially for years. They also tried to woo LaMarcus Aldridge and he signed with the Spurs instead.
The Lakers are the Sacramento Kings without LeBron helping them. And as soon as he leaves, those nationally televised games and top level engagement will be leaving too. A decade from now his Las Vegas expansion will be the biggest basketball franchise on the West Coast. LA is dead.
