I like this take from FB
Here is my take on why Stafford said what he said, omitting the fans, after his Rams lost to the DETROIT LIONS.
The bottom line is, his feelings were hurt. Not because he was booed . Every opposing QB gets booed. Not the "big deal " so many are trying to make of it.
No, Matthew's feelings were hurt because he just saw, heard and felt more passion and energy from the Detroit Fans than he ever did while he was here, or from the Rams Fans, even with the Superbowl.
Deep down he was feeling conflicted. He uprooted his family and left behind his past, his charities and this team and fans. It would have been easier if he had won the game, then he can move on with the SOL attitude and all would be right with the world.
That was not the case. He witnessed very passionate fans, a very loud stadium, and a very good Lions team.
He saw the entire stadium holding LED lights, 66 thousand fans all working together in unity.
Before the game he could easily say he was the "bad guy" coming to Detroit, but after the game he realized he was not only the "bad guy" but an "outsider". He knows we are thinking "Look what we did without you".
He asked to leave and without him we accomplished in 3 years what he could not do in 12.
Yes he has a Superbowl ring. But something tells me the competitive side in him regrets leaving us to get a ring he helped to win by being a missing piece, not by building a team like Goff, the "throw-away" QB did. He may also feel that truthfully, Goff could have taken that team and won a Superbowl. Me personally, at this point? I think Goff is better now that he has experienced that" Low Point ". More on that in a different take.
I am sure he regrets how his post game comments are being taken. Now that the initial shock of the stadium, the Lions and the fans, not to mention the loss, has gone, he would take those comments back.
What's important now is whether or not he can save face.
Will he continue his charities in Detroit? Will he go in the HOF as a Lion?
At this point, it's up to him.
For me I will always cherish the hard work and commitment Stafford showed the Lions and their fans. I will respect the talent he is. But like Stafford may now realize, I will remember he quit this team and asked to be traded. Goff is our Playoff Winning QB, reborn from the pain of being tossed away like trash and watching another QB win his Superbowl.
Like the saying goes, the hottest fires make the strongest steel.
Go Lions!
