Next Tuesday I’m going to need to see ya’ll in the The 100 season 5 discussion thread.. five seasons in and it still trips me out how you guys continue to sleep on the best show on the CW.

This is my problem with black lightning.. it’s an amazing Black Family show. Probably the best black family show that I’ve seen... but as a super hero show.. its got problems.

Man what they did to LaLa is a Fucking failure....

And the crazy part is that tattoo man is actually a Dc character. And that tattoo man’s powers are supernaturally based.... why would you change that. Man this finale is not impressing me right now.

They mentioned that it kept him from aging but nothing about also super strength... and definitely nothing about his sidekick having carbon fiber implanted under her skin. They also never mentioned why he is taking the serum..
Like if you have this type of power and have lived longer then all of the other players in the game .. why are you taking orders from lady eve or that government organization.
HOW The hell did three people infiltrated a government blacksite..
And then how the hell did Black lightning find dudes warehouse with the metahumans...
The action was tight and they did wrap up a lot of threads.... but there was just way to much they were trying to wrap up in this episode..
This is the first superhero show that I’d say really should have gotten another 3 to 4 episodes.
But again.. it’s the best fucking Black family that’s on Tv right now. Hands down...
But the second season has got to expland beyond the core ... and bring in more villains. Like lady eve and Tobis’s sister look to be nothing more then stunt casting...
And LaLa...
They ruined him by not doing the sensible comicbook thing and making him supernatural... Using Tech to justify his resurrection and explain his tattoos.. makes zero sense.
Like why would anybody add the tattoo bit into this type of thing.. for shits and giggles. Wouldn’t the ability to resurrect someone be enough... and wouldn’t Tobias want to resurrect his Fucking sister first... the one person that he actually seemed to care for... and then if you wereel going to resurrect him.. why not take control of him immediately.. why have dude get back into the game...
That shit just reeks of a last minute stunt shit.
The comments that the showrunner made about Black Lightning not being in the Arrowverse and the references to Supergirl and Vixen being nothing more... then statements to tease the fans... shows me that she just doesn’t get that fans expect a lot more from their superhero shows.. these days..
You can’t just drops teases ... and expect us not to wonder why would you do such??
Any way it still was a great season and yeah I know my comments have grown more negative these last 3 weeks... but I expect more.. especially from a US produced show.
To use Luke Cage as an example.. in almost the same number of Episodes... And even though the season took a major dip after cottonmouth died.. the season managed to open up a lot of threads to keep me invested in for Season 2..

If they were going to go that route.. they should have left Proctor on the board... as a potential threat to Tobias.. maybe have a couple episodes to explain their relationship ..

Legends has found a niche.. that first season was horrible and I’m hard on legends. I love the 100 and I was extremely hard on some things on that 3 season..
I’m more then willing to point out issues with a show.. even a show that I love. Like I think atlanta isn’t having a good season.. but it’s had one episode that just really stood out as horrible to me.
Overall the Black family aspect of Black lighting has been outstanding and all of the threads dealing the family parts have been perfect but that’s a given with the talent behind the scenes.. but the deeper into the season the super hero parts have showed me that they are rookies in this arena. They fell into the trap of treating this season like it was an even series..
Like the Dome.. the first season of the Dome started out great and ended great because it seemed like it was a one and done thing.. in that scenario you can throw a lot out there and wrap up most threads in the end..
But the problem with the dome is that that wrapped up so much shit that the second season was a lot of meh.
Wayward pines is the bigger example... first season was fucking close to perfect and was a complete beginning and ending but they wrapped up so much shit that the second season appears unnecessary.....
Most of the threads were wrapped up here... thunder came into her own, the youngest finally accepted her powers... Jefferson and his wife are back together.. he fixed his relationship with his adopted father.. LaLa bew up.. Procter was taken down ... the missing kids were found... the city knows about the missing kids..the police now openly accept black lightning and thunder.....
The only thing still there is Tobias... but Tobias has been around for decades... you could technically end the series with just the fact that no matter what Black Lightning does... there’s always going to be a reason for him to continue to wear the suit. The End..
So where do you go next season? Do they bring in someone bigger then Tobias.. well can that person resurrect mutherfuckers and make them slaves with technological tattoos... if that’s a no.. then how how do you really expect to best dude.
That’s the problem that they now have with Tobias ... now dude is to powerful. I’m making enhanced people.. I’m two steps ahead of folks... I’m breaking into government sites with just three people... and now I’m resurrecting people and turning them in my undead slaves..
It’s the same problem that The Flash has with Devo and that Arrow has with Diaz... all of these shows made these dude too powerful too soon... which makes the main Villian boring.
That’s why LaLa was a great Villian... dude was a bottom Level guy that grew up in the ranks and was betrayed.. there was a sense that he was beatable but you didn’t want to see his end coming soon because you could see a parallel with him and Jefferson piece. You wanted to see his growth... when he died a lot of the air left the show.. because even though Tobias was interesting then.. dude had been at the top for years.. he was at his peak. Then when LaLa came back there was this new energy because now you have a man who could work his way back up again with a mission to take out the dude at the top that killed him.. that instantly raises the stakes and could have been used to set up a cool street war between Tobias and LaLa for season 2... which could have been used as the catalyst for bringing in more costumed vigilantes for season 2 to stop the violence.
The way this season ended though.. if black lightning is not greenlit for season 2... I don’t know if I would be to upset. This season felt like a complete show.

It feels like they where doing a "one off " with the series and didn't realize it would be such a hit and threw the last episode together trying to tie up loose ends...
It obvious they will tie the show into the Arrowverse through some Multiverse after it success...
It's stupid trying to keep it seperate from the Arrowverse at this point...
We need a real Black hero in the Arrowverse crossovers that's not just a sidekick like Diggle and gay ass Mister Terrific

What makes a show great is that it does not give you everything in the beginning. It keeps somethings mysterious. So now you have to figure out where is the serum being produced
That’s whats season 2 is for.
They mentioned that Tobias takes a serum that slows his aging.
The problem is that they didn’t leave anything mysterious.. we already pretty much know that proctor and his government section are the ones that gave Tobias this serum, the tech and the other shit that he had... he all but confirmed that two weeks in the epsiode where he woke up in their facility. Looking at that episode now... they should have waited to bring back Tobias in season 2.. and just focused on Proctor and LaLa. Tobias really wasn’t necessary these last three episodes.
It gives your writers a lot of ways to go with the direction of the show. I am glad they didn’t give to much and gave us something to talk about.
The writers are not boxed in and have many different directions they can move with the storyline
I think part of the focus on Tobias is light weight tie in with the new Suicide Squad animated movie. Not necessarily continuity tie in, just more visibility for the character.
Echoes of Cottonmouth on season 1 of Luke Cage. The secondary villain is more compelling than the main big bad. Props to William Catlett, he played the hell out of LaLa. A ruthless killer comes back from the dead, has to confront the sins of his past and decide where he goes from there. Good stuff.
I think the writers dropped the ball a bit with Tobias. He was a little too cartoony at times. Characters like Gambi, LaLa, and even Khalil were shown to be more complex. We got some insight into Tobias' daddy issues, but loss of his sister was barely dealt with. She had his back since they were kids and understood his pain. I kind of wish he blamed Black Lightning for her death rather than some random henchman. Maybe he'll resurrect her for season 2.
It did feel like the show ran out of time so they starting dumping exposition on LaLa's resurrection and Syonide's backstory. I like the thirteen episode season, they just need to plan things out better.
It was renewed after they were finish shooting season 1
Man this season finale was off the gawt damn chain. If you black and not feeling this shit right here, Your black card is gonna be revoked lol. Racist ass white guy gets his in the end and black man and his family are heroes. Season needs to keep this energy and we good. Salute to Black Lightning.
The music during this scene was great. Anyone know the name of it.

It explained a lot about how Syonide was able to go "Womano A Womano" (COPYRIGHT!!!) a few weeks back.
She's pretty much become my favorite Character on the series.
I love that "Gun Moll" shit with her being Tobias' Right Hand.
And that school fight with Thunder was one of the BEST TV Fights EVER!!!
