Iniesta could face 1-game ban in Champions League

Andres Iniesta could be suspended from the first leg of Barcelona's Champions League semifinal clash with Real Madrid.

The UEFA is considering an additional one-game ban for Iniesta for allegedly provoking a yellow card in the first leg of his team's knockout series against Shakhtar Donetsk, which ruled him out of the return leg.

If imposed, the Spain midfielder would miss the game at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on April 27.

Barcelona said late Monday that it believed Iniesta would not be dealt the extra punishment because of ''the good faith of the player and the disproportionate nature of the proposed sanction.''

The three-time European champions said a decision by UEFA was expected on Wednesday.

La Liga side set for Team Dubai rebrand

teamdubaimarktwo20110419_275x155.jpg

Royal Emirates Group, the investment arm of the Dubai royal family, has bought an as yet unnamed La Liga club and is set to rebrand the team and invest heavily.

Early reports indicated that the club in question was Real Zaragoza and suggested that the cash-strapped outfit would be renamed 'Team Dubai'.

But a spokesperson for Royal Emirates Group, owned by Sheikh Butti Bin Suhail Al Maktoum, confirmed to ESPNsoccernet that Zaragoza are not the club in question and that the club that has been bought will not be completely renamed.

The spokesperson said: "It is a Spanish La Liga division side. The team will not be renamed but it will be titled as '[club's name] Team Dubai' in order to deliver the message that Dubai care."

The team's identity will be revealed at a press conference on Thursday but ESPNsoccernet understands that the club in question are a mid-table, debt-free Primera Division side who have enjoyed some domestic success in recent seasons and have participated in European compeition.

The club's chairman and several high-profile players are due to arrive in Dubai on Wednesday.

Man City vs Stoke City..................who cares????

Tomorrow is the game of the week, Tottenham Hotspurs vs The scum...

We stumbled today. :smh::smh:

I'll be counting on those Spurs to take care of the frenchmen & co. :yes:

Come on Arry!

Damn, why did the Spanish Cup final have to be on the same day as Arsenal vs Scum? What kind of backward fucks arrange a domestic cup final on a weekday? :lol:

What a day, what a day. :yes:

1) Madrid v Barca.

I've haven't seen Barca look that one dimensional in a long while. :smh: The only moment of brilliance was the offsides netter from Pedrito. That was about it. Outside of that, I never felt they were going to wake up and take the reigns the way we've been seeing as of late. Gotta give full credit to Mourinho for shaping this side, and not only is he getting the business done against the rivals, but he's winning fans over. Something I didn't think the defensive minded special one would be able to do. I've never heard content Madrid fans on some, "forget playing beautiful, we won!!"

If this becomes a chess match in the Champions League, one can only wonder what Pep has in store.

2) Spurs v Arsenal.

:roflmao::roflmao3: @ the Gooners. :smh::smh::smh::smh:

Arsene Wenger's a complete fucking idiot in my book. He'd make one hell of a scout cause he's got what Denzel in Training Day would call the "Magic Eye", but as for him coaching... :smh: I think he just needs to call it a day and let water bottles live in harmony on the touchline cause this guy clearly doesn't have an answer when punched in the mouth. All he can do is bend over on his knees, and look on in agony with his hands in the air.

Dalgish set him straight over the weekend with this one...

And fuck the FA for not giving that scouse cunt a 2 game ban as they did with Wazza and Sir Alex. :angry::angry::angry:

That is all. :cool:

The fact that the Copa trophy was dropped from a bus and run over makes me smile and feel some sort of balance in the universe.

It wasn't the same thing. Yes players and managers do swear during the game to each other, but not directly into a camera. There is where the difference lies on this issue and thats why Rooney was out of line.

He is no longer Franando Scoreless anymore.

Nice to see Villa finally get one as well. And that goal gives Messi the record now right? Also, Pique and Shakira are a couple now?? Showed them sitting together and her kissing him.....huh who would have thought.

:lol: the Spanish-speaking commentators on GOLTV are always calling Pique "Shakira boy".

Which record? Because he had already broken Ronaldo's record of 47 goals for Barca that season. Or were you referring to some other record?

Yea it was the Ronaldo record. Forgot how much it was...just remembered he had to get around 50 to break it.

No player had ever scored 50 goals in La Liga.

Lionel Messi scores 50th goal

BARCELONA, Spain -- Lionel Messi became the first player in Spain to score 50 goals in a club season, helping Barcelona rebound from its loss to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final with a 2-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday night.

Barcelona rested most regular starters in preparation for Wednesday's first leg of the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid -- the third of four matches between the rivals in an 18-day span.

Lionel Messi became the first player in Spain to score 50 goals in a club season during Barcelona's 2-0 win Saturday.

David Villa scored his 18th goal -- and first in 12 games -- in the 24th minute. Messi replaced Villa in the 58th and rolled home his league-leading 31st goal with three minutes left. With 177 goals for Barcelona in all competitions, Messi is one behind Josep Samitier for third place on the Barcelona career scoring list, trailing Cesar Rodriguez (235) and Laszlo Kubala (196).

Seeking its third straight La Liga title, Barcelona extended its league unbeaten streak to 31 games and maintained an eight-point lead over second-place Real Madrid with five games remaining.

Three days after hoisting its 18th domestic cup and first trophy in nearly three years with a 1-0 overtime victory over Barcelona, Real Madrid returned to the Mestalla Stadium and routed Valencia 6-3.

Gonzalo Higuain scored three goals, Kaka two and Karim Benzema one as Madrid became the first visiting team to score six goals at the Mestalla. Roberto Soldado, Jonas and Jordi Alba scored for Valencia.

In the late game, Athletic Bilbao defeated Real Socidead 2-1.

As Gooner, I give up on our tittle chase :smh::angry::smh::angry::smh:

:angry::angry::angry:
Itold you so.Now I want to believe like most that Wenger might/is the problem :smh::smh:. Another season and not even the second on the table :(:smh::angry::hmm:

I've said it before and I'll say I again, when your oldest squad player is 24, you're not going to be in it at the end. There's a level of experience that is missing from that lineup, and as long as the Frenchman doesn't address it, the gunners will always start off as quartet contenders, and finish with nothing.

Any arsenal fan has to take notice that this is a recurring issue rather coincidence.

Manchester United 2 - Manuel Neuer 0.

Poor kid deserved better than that. :smh: No wonder he wants to leave.

LOL...even as a ManUnited fan, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. LOL

Oh of course. I was expecting them to give us a fight without a doubt. Plus with a rejuvenated Raul, I was ready for a troubled evening in Germany.

Not exactly what happenned though. Oh well, 90 mins to Wembley. :yes::yes:

Let's see what today holds.

Oh well, we may be knocked out of all competitions but I' m sill a fan of football. I expect the first leg between Barca and Real to end in 0-0.
