another great season, we got all them chelsea and arsenal fans salty as fuck

Sent from my MB200 using Tapatalk

Chelsea fans I can understand. On paper, their squad is talented. But Arsenal cannot continue to believe they can win the premiership with an all youth team.

Wasn't pretty but I will take it. Feels great to win #19! Those fans at Merseyside better be watching now! I hope DB9 starts the last game too and does work!

WELL FUCKING DONE BY THE FA!!!!

FA refuse to vote in FIFA election

binhammamandblatter20110125_275x155.jpg

The English Football Association's board has agreed to abstain from the vote for the FIFA presidency, chairman David Bernstein has revealed.

England's failure to win hosting rights for the 2018 World Cup and the subsequent allegations of corruption that have clouded last December's vote led the FA to conclude that neither incumbent Sepp Blatter or his challenger Mohamed Bin Hammam deserve its support.

A statement from Bernstein read: "There are a well-reported range of issues both recent and current which, in the view of The FA board, make it difficult to support either candidate.

"The FA values its relationships with its international football partners extremely highly. We are determined to play an active and influential role through our representation within both UEFA and FIFA. We will continue to work hard to bring about any changes we think would benefit all of international football."

FA chiefs had all but ruled out supporting Blatter before Thursday's meeting but last week's fresh allegations of World Cup bidding corruption involving Qatar have also brought into question Bin Hammam's credentials in the FA's eyes, meaning it willl abstain from the vote on June 1.

Bin Hammam's candidacy has been tarnished by claims in Parliament that two FIFA members were paid $1.5 million to vote for Qatar 2022. As president of the Asian confederation, he played a key role in securing the tournament for the country.

Qatar whistleblower to give evidence

seppblattercasualshirtmay2011_275x155.jpg

The whistleblower at the centre of World Cup bid bribery allegations has agreed to come to FIFA to give evidence in person, Sepp Blatter said.

The person, who had worked for the Qatar 2022 bid organisation, alleged that FIFA members Issa Hayatou and Jacques Anouma were paid $1.5 million each to vote for the Middle East state's World Cup bid, according to evidence given to a Parliamentary committee by the Sunday Times. The pair deny the claims.

Now Blatter, the FIFA president, has said that the newspaper has agreed to bring the whistleblower to Zurich to testify in person.

Speaking in an interview with reporters at FIFA headquarters, Blatter said: "We are anxiously awaiting for these evidences or non-evidences in order that we can take the adequate steps. The newspaper has agreed that we will bring this whistleblower here to Zurich and then we will have an investigation of this.''

The interview will be conducted by FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke and legal director Marco Villiger.

Blatter said he was also keen for the independent investigation commissioned by the FA into other claims made by ex-chairman Lord Triesman to provide their findings as soon as possible - FIFA's Congress opens in 11 days.

Triesman alleged impropriety by four other FIFA members - Trinidad's Jack Warner, Thailand's Worawi Makudi, Brazil's Ricardo Teixeira and Paraguay's Nicolas Leoz - while he was head of England's 2018 World Cup bid, claiming in Parliament that they asked for cash or favours.

Blatter added: "We have to see evidence and then we will intervene. We have received the declarations made in the House of Commons but we have not received any evidence.

"The whole procedure cannot be done in 11 days but before 11 days we must know whether the allegations are true or not true - or unproven. If they are not true this case is over.

"The ethics committee is already alerted and alarmed - they are not just lying on the beach - and the members will come for the Congress and can convene at very short notice.''

Blatter refused to be drawn on whether FIFA would organise a re-vote of the 2022 World Cup bid if the allegations are proven.

He added: "This is an idea circulating already around the world which is alarming. Don't ask me yes or no, let us go step by step.''

The corruption claims have overshadowed the FIFA presidential election on June 1 where Blatter is standing against Asian confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam, who is from Qatar and played the key role in securing the 2022 tournament for his country.

Blatter has now received backing from all the continental confederations bar Asia - though this does not mean all the individual associations will follow suit.

Warner, the CONCACAF president, emailed Blatter this week giving the support of the organisation that covers football in north and central America and the Caribbean.

"I have just received an email from Mr Warner saying CONCACAF will always be your home ground,'' said Blatter.

Freddy Adu called up to U.S. roster

CHICAGO -- Freddy Adu is getting another chance.

The former phenom was selected to the U.S. roster for next month's Gold Cup on Monday, the first time in almost two years he's been included in coach Bob Bradley's plans. Adu has been playing at Rizespor in Turkey's second division since January.

"Freddy is a player that, in the past, has shown us soccer qualities that we think help our team," Bradley said. "It hasn't always added up enough yet with the full national team, but it seems like a good opportunity to get him back in with us when we have a good month together, and challenge him and hope that he has continued to grow and mature."

The Americans will begin reporting Thursday to training camp in Cary, N.C. They have a June 4 exhibition in Foxborough, Mass., against World Cup champion Spain, followed by the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean.

The Americans open group play June 7 in Detroit against Canada. They play Panama on June 11 in Tampa, Fla., and close the first round against Guadeloupe on June 14 at Kansas City, Kan.

"Thanx everyone for the congrats. Happy to be part of the US team again," Adu said on Twitter.

Adu, who turns 22 on June 2, burst onto the U.S. soccer scene at the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championships. He scored three goals against South Korea and a game-winner against Sierra Leone in the tournament, where Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas was the MVP.

The teenager created an even bigger splash that November when he signed with D.C. United -- a deal that landed him on David Letterman's "Late Show." His MLS debut in April 2004 was given showcase treatment on ABC, and he played the final 29 minutes, becoming the youngest player on a major U.S. pro team in more than 115 years.

He earned his first invitation to a national team training camp in January 2006. Later that month, the 16-year-old became the youngest player in U.S. national team history when he came on as a substitute against Canada.

"At different times, he has shown some soccer abilities that are special," Bradley said. "He hasn't always been able to make them count in different situations, at different levels."

In fact, Adu fell so far, so fast that he's become a cautionary tale for youngsters with exceptional talents.

Weeks after Adu scored three goals against Poland at the 2007 Under-20 World Cup, Benfica paid $2 million for his transfer from MLS. But the coach who signed him was fired after two games, and Adu made only two starts that season. He was loaned the following July to Monaco, where he played 110 minutes -- all season.

Adu scored his first goal for the U.S. team on Nov. 19, 2008, in a 2-0 win over Guatemala in a World Cup qualifier, and added his second the following July against Grenada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. It was his last appearance with the U.S. team, and he was left out of last year's World Cup.

He bounced between clubs in Portugal and Greece, and had a handful of tryouts with other European teams before being loaned to Rizespor in late January.

Though Bradley has been keeping tabs on Adu -- he watched Rizespor's playoff game Monday on the computer -- he acknowledged Adu's selection was probably the biggest surprise on the 23-man roster. Because of the importance of the Gold Cup, Bradley stuck with most of the veterans that were part of last year's World Cup team while adding up-and-comers Juan Agudelo, Tim Ream and Eric Lichaj.

"Freddy has fallen out of the scene a little bit. Typically, playing in the second division in Turkey doesn't bring you back into the scene," Bradley said. "We never thought (his) story was over. Now we will find out where it fits for right now."

Adu is getting regular playing time and has scored three goals for Rizespor. But Bradley said a combination of factors convinced him to take another look at Adu, including what he hopes is a maturity that might have been missing in past years.

"We respect the fact that he made this move to go to a smaller club because he had to show people he was willing to do whatever to keep going," Bradley said. "We're looking forward to seeing how he's handling things, a maturity, a way that tells us his experiences along the way have been measured and he understands that all of it needs to come together to move along, whether it's with a club team or the national team."

The roster:

Goalkeepers: Tim Howard (Everton, England), Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton, England), Nick Rimando (Salt Lake)

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne, France), Jonathan Bornstein (Tigres, Mexico), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover, Germany), Clarence Goodson (Brondby, Denmark), Eric Lichaj (Leeds, England), Oguchi Onyewu (Twente, Netherlands), Tim Ream (New York), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United, England)

Midfielders: Freddy Adu (Rizespor, Turkey), Michael Bradley (Aston Villa, England), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, England), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles), Maurice Edu (Rangers, Scotland), Benny Feilhaber (New England), Jermaine Jones (Blackburn, England), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht, Belgium), Robbie Rogers (Columbus)

Forwards: Juan Agudelo (New York), Jozy Altidore (Bursaspor, Turkey), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose)

Finally!!! I hope dude can flourish and show that he still has that magic that he showed during the U-20 youth cup years ago. Adu is one of the few American players who have in game ball skills.

Who would Freddy bench though? Edu and Feilhaber are our best midfielders. With Lando and Demps on the wings, i'm having trouble understanding where exactly he'd fit into Bradley's 4-4-2.

Michael Bradley's better than both Edu and Feilhaber. But I see your point on Adu. Is it possible for him to play back as a second striker. IDK honestly. I say give him work as a substitute and just go from there.

I think the plan is to use him as a sub but even then how far down the pecking order will he be? Assuming from what DJC said those 2 are starting in the midfield, Bradley would definitely (I think) be the first to get subbed in.

Not sure exactly how Bradley goes about his tactics but I just wonder how much value he will put in Adu verse the rest of the guys he has when it comes to the subs.

Pause...

Michael Bradley is not better than Maurice Edu or Benny Feilhaber. Individually, and certainly not collectively.

Our midfield boasts 1 workhorse, and 1 passer. Benny can outpass, and is far more creative than Bradley will ever be. In the hustle battle, i'll give the edge to Bradley, but even then, we have Maurice Edu, which again, collectively, doesn't leave room for Bradley.

Edu's tenacity, and knack for the ball will far outshine any defensive responsibilities Bradley could produce, but not only that, he can distribute just as effectively.

As Game Plan just mentioned, Bradley would be first in the pecking order when it comes to subs, IF HIS FATHER WASN'T COACH. But since he is, US fans are going to have to stomach him in the starting 11 for at least another 3-4 years.

Interesting point, but I still don't agree. Regardless neither of the three are anything to get excited about anyways. I guess we'll see how it works out during the Gold Cup. Hopefully the USMNT can bring it home.

Blatter faces Fifa probe
President the latest to come under scrutiny

SeppBlatter_2601908.jpg

Fifa have taken the unprecedented step of opening ethics proceedings against president Sepp Blatter.

World football's governing body confirmed the news on Friday morning as the spiral of allegations over corruption among the rulers of the game continues.

Asian football chief Mohamed Bin Hammam and Fifa president Jack Warner are already due to appear before Fifa's ethics committee on Sunday to face bribery allegations, with both men denying any wrongdoing.

There were accusations of underhand dealings levelled at Fifa even before the votes were cast for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosting rights, and these have only increased in recent weeks.

Now Blatter will also appear on Sunday to answer charges that he knew about alleged cash payments after Bin Hammam, his rival for the Fifa presidency in next week's election, called for the Swiss to be quizzed.

Proceedings
The ethics committee are bound by their rules to investigate any complaint by an executive committee member under article 16 of the ethics code.

Fifa said in a statement: "On 26 May 2011, Fifa ExCo member Mohamed Bin Hammam has requested the FIFA ethics committee to open ethics proceedings against Fifa president Joseph S Blatter on the basis that, in the report submitted by Fifa ExCo member Chuck Blazer earlier this week, Fifa vice-president Jack A Warner would have informed the Fifa president in advance about alleged cash payments to delegations attending a special meeting of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) apparently organised jointly by Jack A Warner and Mohamed Bin Hammam on 10 and 11 May 2011 and that the Fifa President would have had no issue with these.

"Subsequently, the Fifa ethics committee today opened a procedure against the Fifa president in compliance with art. 16 of the Fifa code of ethics.

"Joseph S Blatter has been invited to take position by 28 May 2011, 11:00 CET and to attend a hearing by the FIFA ethics committee at the Home of FIFA (Zurich) on 29 May 2011."

Bundles of cash
Bin Hammam is effectively claiming that Blatter was aware of some wrongdoing but did not report it, in itself a breach of the code.

Blatter issued a statement saying: "I cannot comment on the proceedings that

have been opened against me today. The facts will speak for themselves."

The ethics committee will hear the bribery charges against Bin Hammam and Warner on Sunday in Zurich.

A file of evidence claims bundles of cash of up to 40,000 US dollars were handed over to members of the Caribbean Football Union at meetings in Trinidad earlier this month.

The committee, chaired by Namibian judge Petrus Damaseb, will also be under pressure to decide soon whether Blatter will face any charges or not.

Meanwhile, the FA are due to send to Fifa the report they commissioned by barrister James Dingemans QC into claims by ex-chairman Lord Triesman that Warner and three other Fifa ExCo made improper requests during England's 2018 World Cup bid.

It is understood that only the claims against Warner have been corroborated by witnesses.

The claim that Warner asked for financial help to build an education centre has been backed up by Premier League chairman Sir Dave Richards, while Dingemans' file also includes an email from Warner to Triesman asking the FA to pay for Haiti's World Cup TV rights.

Hard to gloat because the Man U fans on here are cool.

They are cool......but it's not hard for me :D

I guess they will be singing Glory Glory Barcelona in London tonight.:dance:

Villa finally puts one in, along w/ Pedro. Abidal was lovely out there and was great that they gave him the band to hold up the trophy. Outside of the first 15 mins where United was controlling things, I liked what I saw.

Just wonder what the complaints will be this time b/c didn't see anything controversial to me....pretty fair match all around.

No shame in that.

Congrats to Barcelona and their fans. Well deserved.

Three quick thoughts on the Champions League final

messi_united_298.jpg

Three thoughts after Barcelona defeated Manchester United 3-1 to win the UEFA Champions League title:

• Greatest team of all time? Barça's in the discussion. What more can you say? This Barcelona team deserves to be considered among the best in history, not just for the way it dominated scorelines but also for the swashbuckling style that none of us will ever forget seeing. After having to sit through several disappointing Big Games in world soccer (including last year's World Cup final), we got to see Barcelona and Manchester United deliver a classic. All credit to United for coming to play and staying even through halftime at 1-1, but Barça unloaded all of its weapons in a dominant second half and forced United into submission. The great thing about Barça's reign is this: it is not just winning soccer. It's beautiful soccer, too, and the main reason for that is ...

• Lionel Messi cannot be stopped.
I think it's possible that Messi is somehow underrated. Everyone knows he's the best player in the world, but not everyone grasps that Messi is so much better than any other player that he's off the charts, a complete freak. Messi showed some of his best stuff in this final. So scared were Manchester United's defenders of his ability to beat them on the dribble that they gave Messi space to unleash a thunderbolt of a left-footed blast to give Barça a 2-1 lead. And that was Messi who completely broke Nani's ankles on the play that led to David Villa's game-sealing strike and a 3-1 lead. In a modern game dominated by physical size and athleticism, Messi is the most special of outliers, a player of ordinary size whose skill and vision and chutzpah are taking this game to a new level.

• Fox has to get its act together. On the day when a big final delivered a memorable game, the only negative aspect was Fox's pre-game coverage, which continues to dumb down the sport and compare it to other U.S. sports. ESPN proved with its excellent World Cup coverage that you can cover soccer straight up for an American audience without having to turn it into Soccer for Dummies. Fox, sadly, has yet to figure that out. And so we got Michael Strahan making a dimwitted appearance comparing fútbol to football and inane coverage of Gerard Piqué's relationship with the singer Shakira. It's enough to make you hope ESPN/ABC manages to get the rights back to the Champions League.

"In my time as a manager," said the United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after the final, "it's the best team we have ever faced. No one has ever given us a hiding like that."
