ok episode... it will be like all lost seasons....they'll give bits and pieces thoughout the season then give the whole smorgasbord at the end. but i think a whole lot of questions wont get answered.

Okay, well, after this episode, I think Jacob is totally delusional and wants to keep MIB on the island because he does not want to be alone.
He created the smoke monster and I am starting to hate this show.

Frankly if he had not caused the smoke monster, there would be o reason why MIB would be obligated to remain on the island, NONE. Besides the madness of their murderous "mother".
I now think that Jacob is a liar and an elitist who enjoys playing with people's life.

dont forget that the mother made it so that neither of them would be able to leave or kill each other. True that mib didn't have any purpose to still stay on the island but because he and his brother were born at the same time they both were cursed by the woman
I agree. Jacob is following a lie he was told, MIB isn't buying it and wants to leave. They're both bad, mirror images of each other, Jacob just doesn't know it.

Jacob has left the island numerous times. He can leave. MIB cant. And the Man in Black as we know did succeed in killing Jacob through his "loophole".
Seriously, watch ABC introduce a new show next year called FOUND, which will answer all the questions and then some.This episode pissed me off.

we forgetting the light their surrogate mother was protecting to the end..which focus into the island also.she told them they must not go into the light even though it was pure. mib went into the light... not necessarily an evil person but not pure. the light sucked out his impurities which formed the smoke then returned his body to where jacob found it.

His fake mother admitted to killing his real mom, but he could not let go, I kinda understand since she raised him but man, after a while one must think for himself...

1) There were no other people on the island.
2) After seeing people that they were no good.
3) That they can't hurt each other.
(Yet Jacob beats his brother twice and "kills" his body)

Here is a crazy-ass new theory and some questions:
Why was Richard brought to the island and why did MIB take the form of his dead wife?
Maybe their fates around intertwined and MIB HAS left the island traveled the world and along the travels takes the form of people who have died. But while traveling Jacob uses magnetism to bring him back. MIB was on the ship and when it was broght back to the island he lost the form he had taken.
What is Widmore's interest in the island?
The source and light
Why did Jacob meet all these people and how did they get together on the same plane?
With some kind of herbs, drink, or magic, or jacobs touch.
Why did Jacob even decide to select candidates?
Because like his adopted mother he knew his time was up.
Also I believe there is some reason that everyone of the candidates lives parallel Jacob and MIB's lives.
I also think that most of our questions will be answered in the final episode but will raise new questions, like how did MIB know that everyone didn't die, how did he know to how to use the magnetism to get off the island, what is his 'gift'?
Also MIB and Locke are probably both dead and their souls were trasferred to the black smoke or their both individual smoke monsters or part of the same soul absorbing smoke monster.

If I can chime in - the island is a microcosm of the planet. The Light is the spark of eternal life (god if you will)in order to keep balance the spark at some point create the protector (Jesus)or the woman as we saw in the show. she is entrusted with protecting the life and guiding the flock (people) but man has free will and with free will you can make choices for good or evil. The woman you saw on the island Jacobs mother was a personification of Mary (the virgin mary) and she gave birth unexpectedly she gave birth not only to the next protector but the devil as well. The woman on the island never loved MIB more than Jacob her fascination with him was because she knows what he is and what he will do if let lose so she watched him more and to Jacob it appeared to be love but it was truly fascination. When Jacob killed his brother he only set in motion what was supposed to happen. The island woman tried to avoid this by destroying man and trying not to temp MIB in to choosing evil over good. Also remember both babies were born of a corporal mother thus if you noticed each of them became empowered when the time was right. First it was Jacob because the mother knew he would have eventually went to the light because he had dug a trench to it remember. then she gave Jacob power by drinking from the cup of a carpenter (Indiana Jones shout out). thus they both had to become powered to keep balance. we forget this because Jacob doesn't turn into stuff but does angelic things like give long life (Richard). so in a way they are both fallen angels who have to allow man to choose the means to his end. so if a person is not into the bible, how are they supposed to figure this out? and here are some more questions that could have, and should have been answered during this show.
1 - how did the fake mother get to the island
2 - when jacobs brother went to live with the other people, what did they call him?
3 - who finished building the well?
4 - how did the fake mother kill everyone
5 - why bring people to the island, if its not supposed to be found
6 - so how does widmore know about what the island holds
7 - so is it safe to say that jacobs soul is stuck on the island, since he killed someone on the island, same goes for MIB, his sould is stuck on the island for killing his fake mother, so how is it even possible, that he can leave.
8 - who built the pyramid and statue
9 - put a wheel in the light and it can move the island? how was this discovered?
10 - if mib was in the form of christian and showed ben how to move the island, why didnt he just do it himself? why did he need someone else to move it?
11 - why can jacob (who was not dead at the time) and MIB (whos been dead for the longest, only be killed by that knife. And how did it go from MIB hand (he gave it to richard, richard gave it back) to Dogans possession?
12 - i assume the temple was built over the light, since both are the source of life.
13 - what factors did jacob use in determining who would be his replacement.
14 - where did he get the power to see people off the island, while on the island.
15 - who even told him he had the power to do certain things.
16 - and why cant people have children on the island again?
17 - the army, who brought them there?
18 - why not choose people from dharma as candidates, or the others.
Im pretty sure people will come in and say "these are irrelevant questions" and "the show is not going to answer everything", but i think we can all agree that these are interesting points.

Man I was thinking the same damn thing!! I was so mad when MIB wanted to leave the only and was BEGGING them to just let him go.
My heart went out to him, he wanted to know where he came from and was looking for any way to get out and then Jacob and his crazy mother gets in the way......FUCK JACOB!!

We now know how MIB(currently locke) got his powers ? thanks to Jacob, and who gave Jacob the powers that he has( which include leaving and returning to the island), but what was not explained is how did their fake mother got to the island and how she got those powers ? What im trying to understand is how come MIB(locke) can't just leave the island now since there is really nobody to stop him (jacob being dead), or noone with the powers that Jacob had . Shit should be easy for him now, shouldn't it ? or maybe he wants to make sure that all six candidates are dead before he escapes,,,,,,
When's the only other time (besides the whole dharma initiative purge and Hydra Island airplane mausoleum) that you've seen massive amount of dead bodies strewn around like that? Maybe she's a smoke monster or Jacob for that matter...

The episode was not slow for me, i thought it was great, they have explained quite a big deal here, but i think this episode was badly timed, it should have come before the Richard Episode, this just killed the momentum that have building up over the last two episodes.
I still wonder how MIB was able to meet richard and give him the knife to go kill Jacob if MIB Body was already dead, or did that happen before Jacob Killed MIB....
thats something they wont explain. but that did not happen before jacob killed mib. the statue was built when richard got there, it wasnt built when jacob killed his brother. whats even more interesting is mib had the knife, he dies, so we assume jacob took it from him when he died. fast forward to richard coming to the island, mib has the knife again. he gives it to richard to kill jacob, richard refuses and gives the knife back to mib. fast forward to the present, Dogan at the temple has the knife. how?
I think they just some random shit on the island that people are trying to give some purpose
regarding the candidates, lets say they all lived, or maybe even 3 of them. how would a choice be made on who will stay? Who is in charge to choose between Jack, Sawyer and Hurley? Richard? Who's going to give them the wine? Will Jacob all of a sudden be able to appear to Jack and Sawyer? How will the candidate get its powers to hold MIB on the island?
