I think the timing is less of a concern than the productivity. There is a huge possibility that Durant will be a shell of his former self... those his former self was arguably one of the best in the world, but even though he was much older, Kobe was putting up damn near 28 a game before the achilles injury...he came back putting up 17... achilles injuries are the worst for bball players man... GS really fucked him over by allowing him to go out there

Contracts on your last year are easier to move and even if he would be traded to a non contender, he would be a free agent next season

In today's NBA a 4 year $70 million deal isn't big money. Unless his agent is incompetent... they must know they are getting a 4 year deal that at least doubles that guaranteed $30 million.
