But on paper the last 2 Sony consoles were weaker at launch. Now the last generation Sony had a better price point initially, sonthat definitely helped....
But the PS3 was "weaker" and harder to code for than 360.... and yet it sold like hot cakes...
So if the last 2 generations boiled down to exclusives looking good / great and that's what attracted gamers..... then all the talk/ write ups about PS5 being weaker than Xbox Series X are premature and virtual moot points....
Sony attracts a loyal fan base....its the Xbox fan base that is finicky and may jump ship especially considering more Microsoft "exclusives" are ending up on PC
The PS3 was more powerful than the 360 & initially didn't sell like hot cakes because of the high price & cell chip.
Games, lower price & essentially dominating the Japanese market increased its sales to being 1 of the top selling consoles.
The PS4 was weaker than the One but also came cheaper by $100. Add in their exclusives & it was a slaughter.
I'm not sure what would be a success for Microsoft considering they appear to be blending into PC more. Service users?
But for Sony, Playstation is their most profitable division. They can't fail. I don't think they will fail. But they need console sales.
So if the price is not right, they may not reach PS3 sales. That said, Sony has a very loyal fanbase & top notch exclusives. They'll probably be fine.
