For the most part PC games/ systems are there. Maybe 1080p @ 60fps is a bit of a stretch, but they can give 24-30 fps.

And still we have consoles that revert to 720p

Maybe on paper

The though the total teraflops is lower, each CU of the graphics card on PS5 is running faster.

Real time ray tracing and an SSD running twice as fast as Xbox.....if developers are keen to program for those advantages, gamers would have a better experience on PS5.

but Sony would probably have to make it worth the extra effort

Ray tracing will be much better on Xbox

If there's a price difference in Sony's favor then they will be good.

However if they come in at the same price, Sony may be in trouble this gen.

There was some confusion yesterday about the ps5 only playing the top 100 PS4 games
sony confirms today the PS5 will play almost all the 4,000 PS4 games

Chess move.....

Especially considering more xbox "exclusives" are moving to PC.

To counter, at the same price point the last 2 years, Sony still sold more

True. Games still sell consoles & Sony has a massive exclusive line up.

I don't think either of the big 3 companies could truly "fail".

It's more about top selling & perception of who's dominating a generation.

Look at the gap that was created off of perception between the PS4 & the Xbox One.

So if Sony comes out with a weaker console at the same price, it could give Microsoft a huge advantage.

But on paper the last 2 Sony consoles were weaker at launch. Now the last generation Sony had a better price point initially, sonthat definitely helped....

But the PS3 was "weaker" and harder to code for than 360.... and yet it sold like hot cakes...

So if the last 2 generations boiled down to exclusives looking good / great and that's what attracted gamers..... then all the talk/ write ups about PS5 being weaker than Xbox Series X are premature and virtual moot points....

Sony attracts a loyal fan base....its the Xbox fan base that is finicky and may jump ship especially considering more Microsoft "exclusives" are ending up on PC

The PS3 was more powerful than the 360 & initially didn't sell like hot cakes because of the high price & cell chip.

Games, lower price & essentially dominating the Japanese market increased its sales to being 1 of the top selling consoles.

The PS4 was weaker than the One but also came cheaper by $100. Add in their exclusives & it was a slaughter.

I'm not sure what would be a success for Microsoft considering they appear to be blending into PC more. Service users?

But for Sony, Playstation is their most profitable division. They can't fail. I don't think they will fail. But they need console sales.

So if the price is not right, they may not reach PS3 sales. That said, Sony has a very loyal fanbase & top notch exclusives. They'll probably be fine.

They went with a different design which is kinda bold because they could have easily left it just like it was before. As far as it looking like the Xbox controller, a lot of controllers look like Xbox because it's a good controller.

I'm still copping both consoles because I'm a hardcore gamer. I still play my PS4 Pro more than my One X and that's because of the exclusives. I'm playing Days Gone right now, another exclusive by Sony. Having a great console is cool but making damn good games is even better.

The PS4 was slightly more powerful than the xbox one not weaker. The One was gimped thanks to the expensive camera in every box.

Nice ass controller the black is just a mock up so far, saw it in numerous colors thanks to photoshop. Looks futuristic, however I am starting believe we won't be seeing either system this year as well. Way more important shit to worry about.
