Who's the black private dick that's a sex machine to all the chicks?
(Shaft)
You're damn right
Who is the man that would risk his neck for his brother man?
(Shaft)
Can you dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
(Shaft)
Right on
They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft
(Then we can dig it)
He's a complicated man
But no one understands him but his woman
(John Shaft)

Said it a few days ago. Sad I have to say it again so soon. All the people I watched, listened to and admired are all transitioning, which makes me realize my our mortality. Man, when Easy Reader passes, imma be distraught. Rest In Peace to our first black superhero, John Shaft bka Richard Roundtree. May his soul forever dwell amongst the ancients.

man. all my guys. fred is the only one left

i still remember me and my brother as shorties jumping out the trunk at the drive in [those of you old enough to know, you know] to see those 70s double features, watch black heroes winning on the big screen, and having our parents duck our heads and cover our eyes in the back seat during the nude scenes [i was peeking tho]

and having those movie theme songs ringing in your ears for years on end

mr roundtree...you portrayed the image...you fought illness...you had a second wind career. you are bad enough. rest easy

Im not sure of the timing but was Roundtree the 1st strong Black male in movies in America? if he wasnt he sure as hell broke the mold and recreated what a Black male is supposed to be.

RIP Shaft
Looking back on his roles, he did played characters that were allowed to be intimidating around white people. He didn't have to smile and nod at them like so many black men in the movies before him.
