Sister Rosetta Tharpe (born Rosetta Nubin, March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) She was the first great recording star of gospel music, later being referred to as "the original soul sister" and "the Godmother of rock and roll". She was such an influential force for early rock n roll, she was among the first popular recording artists to use heavy distortion on her electric guitar, opening the way to the rise of electric blues.

Take a look at this incredible sight! The space shuttle Endeavour, fresh from the STS-126 mission, is seen here mounted atop its modified Boeing 747 carrier aircraft, flying over the stunning Mojave Desert in California. This historic event took place on December 10, 2008, when the shuttle began its three-day journey back to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. We're honored to share this breathtaking moment with you!

April 1985, Concorde flies supersonic. This is the only picture ever taken of Concorde flying at Mach2, 1,350 mph. It was taken from a Royal Air Force Tornado, which rendezvoused with Concorde briefly to the south of Ireland. Although the Tornado could match (and even exceed) Concorde's cruising speed it could only do so for a matter of minutes due to the enormous rate of fuel consumption. After racing to catch Concorde and struggling to keep up, the Tornado broke off the rendezvous after just four minutes, while Concorde cruised serenely on to JFK.

Her name was Madeleine. Yet, until three years ago, this 1800 piece by Marie-Guillemine Benoist was referred to nondescriptly as "Portrait of a Negress."

For over two centuries, generations of art historians and curators had not bother to conduct the archival research to learn her name. But the truth lay in the very archives of the Musée du Louvre, waiting for a scholar to uncover previously overlooked details about her life.

Thanks to the work of curator and art historian Dr. Denise Murrell, we know that Madeleine was a formerly enslaved woman from Guadeloupe who worked in the home of Benoist's brother-in-law.

This piece has now been officially renamed "Portrait of Madeleine."

Raymond lived in the same house in Worcester with his daugher, son-in-law, and grandchildren until he died sometime after 1950.
