Navy Master Chief Carl Brashear. He overcame many challenges to be the first African American deep sea diver and Master diver in the Navy's history.
The photo after his return to active duty after losing a leg while at sea during an accident where a crashed aircraft with a nuclear bomb was being recovered. Each gold stripe on his forearm represents 4 years of good conduct. The rate/rank shown is a Boatswains mate Master Chief.
Photo with Cuba Gooding Jr. while filming “Men of Honor” ~1999/2000. Master Chief Brashear passed away in July 2006 and is buried in Portsmouth, VA.
