wow crying shame that i've never heard of this guy until he passed :smh:

First saw Havens live in Central Park at a "ROCK AGAINST RACISM" concert during the early 80s.

Met him when at a CMJ convention in '85 when I was a Radio DJ at City College in New York. Very humble man.

I always felt that Havens never got the respect he deserved because it was believe that his Woodstock success was an "accident". An earlier post goes into a bit more detail about this.

I wish there were more Blacks that ventured into Folk music.
Nothing like hearing just a voice and a guitar.

This is my favorite song by him...

Wow. That was STUNNING. :eek: I never heard him do that one. Great performance and a great song.
