RIP Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner, Lead Singer of the Mighty Ohio Players

"Fire" was one of the first songs that I learned how to play on bass guitar, that and "Play That Funky Music".

R.I.P. "Sugarfoot"
For me it was "Skintight". Unless some even truer old heads can verify to the opposite, it sounds like Lionel Richie and Larry Blackmon's vocal styles - among other funk singers - were heavily influenced by Sugarfoot.

R.I.P. to this legendary Brotha and thanks for the music!

Just broke my heart. I'm truly sad to hear this.

My deepest Condolences to Sugarfoot's family, band mates and friends.

Sugarfoot thank you so much for your solo album; Sugarkiss, produced by Roger.
That album means a lot to me, and I grew up with it throughout some of the greatest
music years of my life so far. It lit up my family house.

Thank you Leroy Sugarfoot Bonner, may you Rest In Peace, Love and with God.

I'll be here playing your album.

First heard of these dudes from samples used on hip hop albums. Then when I went to Community College and older brother in charge of the EOP program used to always bump them in his office. He was an old school mack at least he thougt so lol. I used to sit down and build with him an he would school me the Ohio Players. I keep at least a few tracks on rotation always.

RIP SugarFoot

Damn good piece... thanks for that one HNIC :hmm:

Man my uncle had all those records. And he gave a lot of them to me. I used to spend hours staring at them. That's part of the reason he was so fascinated with hip hop. All his growing up records reincarnated. As an adult, I finally got it. I remember when "Too $hort's" 'I Want To Be Free' tape was playing in the ride. He was like, "ak_rep That's the Ohio Players," trying to help me understand the bridge. He loved those cats.

RIP.

damn.. We lost a great one...

R.i.p.

as a child of the 70s i still remember those album covers...reminders of the adults smokin', drinkin, brown liquor, loud talk, dominos, 'big steel' cars, poly suits

this particular title cut is still the greatest guitar riff from the ohio players...i still play this in the ipod

rip foot...you helped define an era in the black experience

this makes me sad.

I'm a little speechless. I'm sorry.

One of my favorite songs by the Ohio Players (so many samples from this one)

Man they don't have words to help describe how much I loved this song. The Damn Horns were popping through the entire song. Just truly a great song.
