You answered your own question, when the departed is a famous or infamous figure, the public will want to know more. If the family doesn't want to answer a bunch of questions, you get a spokesman to make a statement and ask for understanding and time for the family to process. For example, what if you were a family member of the Walmart manager that just went on that shooting spree, if you don't want the press outside your home, place of work, or following you around, you may have a spokesman make a similar request for privacy.

My mom said she knew Irene Cara's dad in the 80s. I can't confirm though but I believe it. She was talented and beautiful. RIP.

I just watched the documentary on Stunt women earlier this year. There was a black stunt woman who died on the set of Vampire in Brooklyn. Burt Reynolds, like Jackie Chan used to do a lot of his own stunts and in the process he probably could have died a couple dozen times.
The fucked up part is, if you sue they will ruin your career. Same thing happened with the Wicked Witch of the West and the filming of the wizard of oz. She got burned by the smoking fire bomb that appeared at her exit from the scene. She didn't sue because she knew she would never work again
