For SM, especially if the account is monetized or has brand affiliates they look at the "engagement" metrics. How many followers, how many click on a video the 1st hr, 1st day...etc, how many watch a video past 30 secs and how many watch till completion...
That's why so many people will be doing other things while telling the story. They're giving you something else to focus on while passing time, (those are nice earrings, i like her makeup, damn that dress is hugging her body) or taking 3 minutes to say Saint Kitts, when she could've said it in the first 20 seconds and then told the story, most ppl would've moved on after an early reveal
