After spending the past few weeks battling COVID-19, Stephen A. Smith made his return to ESPN’s First Take on Monday morning.
Smith, who announced on Dec. 21 that he’d tested positive for COVID-19, spent the opening segment of Monday’s show detailing his serious battle with the coronavirus. The ESPN personality explained that he was hospitalized over New Years, suffering from a 103-degree fever “every night.”
“For me personally, it hit me differently,” Smith revealed. “You’re assuming that you’ll have a fever, might have a cough, gonna have that massive headache, but you’ll get over it. In a lot of cases that was the case. In my case it was totally different.”
He continued, “I had 103 degree fever every night. Woke up with chills and a pool of sweat. Headaches were massive. Coughing profusely. And it got to a point where right before New Year’s Eve, I was in the hospital into New Year’s Day. That’s how I brought in the New Year.”
Smith went on to express how crucial it is to get vaccinated against COVID-19, revealing that doctors told him if he hadn’t been vaccinated, he likely wouldn’t have made it.
“They told me, had I not been vaccinated, I wouldn’t be here,” he explained. “That’s how bad it was. I had pneumonia in both lungs. My liver was bad. It had ravaged me to the point where even now I have monitor my volume; get to the gym every day, walk before you run. Work your way back because I’m still not 100 percent with my lungs, but I’m COVID negative. I’m on the road to recovery.”

I don't hate Stephen A the person. I hate Stephen A. the celebrity personality. I'm glad Stephen A. pulled through.
I'm also glad he was vaccinated. I've always had breathing problems, so I got vaccinated as soon as I could and I just got my booster.
I hate he has a problem with his liver, hopefully he can recover from that.

Mike Golic Jr. is leaving ESPN, The Post has confirmed.
Barrett Sports Media reported that ESPN Radio informed affiliates that as of Tuesday, Golic Jr. is no longer a part of their lineup. He had been hosting afternoons with Chris Canty, who will, at least for the time being, be joined by a rotating ensemble of hosts.

Golic Jr. joined ESPN in 2015. Before hosting with Canty, his co-host was Chiney Ogwumike, and prior to that he contributed to “Golic & Wingo” with his father, Mike Golic, and Trey Wingo.
Golic Jr.’s exit from ESPN comes about a year and a half after his father departed the company, following a two-decade run in morning drive for ESPN Radio.
A source told The Post that ESPN did make an offer to Golic Jr., but he decided to leave.
One destination that would make sense for Golic Jr. is Dan Le Batard and John Skipper’s Meadowlark Media, where Golic Sr. contributes to various podcasts. It is also plausible that he could wind up calling college football games, as he played offensive line at Notre Dame. Also, the sports gambling companies have been making considerable offers to prominent talents for a couple of years now.

ESPN Radio has told its affiliates that Mike Golic Jr. is no longer part of the radio network. A memo obtained by Barrett Sports Media reads as follows:
The younger Golic has been part of ESPN Radio since 2015, starting on overnights, and eventually working his way up to morning drive with his father and Trey Wingo. He then made the move into afternoons in August of 2020. The afternoon show began with Chiney Ogwumike but became Canty and Golic Jr. after Ogwumike left radio in September of the following year.
No details were given regarding the separation. The New York Post reports that it was a matter of Golic’s contract ending. The paper’s source says that Mike Golic Jr was offered a new contract, but turned it down. BSM reached out to Golic, but he declined to comment.
ESPN Radio is now forced to deal with another lineup change. As the memo states, a series of co-hosts will rotate through to join Chris Canty for the time being. Whether that will be used to try out potential pairings or it’s a placeholder until a new voice is ready to join Canty full-time remains to be seen.
UPDATE: Golic Jr. commented on leaving ESPN in a series of tweets Tuesday afternoon.
“I came here young, dumb, and very insecure about how I’d be perceived for obvious reasons,” Golic said. “I cannot tell you how much even the smallest kindness meant to me then, and now.
“Thanks to ESPN, my coworkers, my bosses, anyone who ever listened to or watched anything I did.”
I liked Golic Jr in the morning with Tre and his dad. But lose track of him when their morning show was canceled. Looks he could never find his footing because a lot his initial persona was Golic son. Don’t think he had the credentials or experience to have the job to begin with.

He did a decent show with Chris Canty. I liked then together. I was a Golic Sr. fan.
I think he has a deal in place and just wants to split. Seemed like a good dude I wish him well.
Huwani who covered MMA for ESPN left recently. He was offered a contract as well but stated it was a pay cut. I wouldn’t be surprised if this not really a tactic to not only cut cost but to let ppl go without officially letting people go.

I haven't watched First Take since Max left. I don't wanna hear Stephen A. & Michael Irvin crackin' it up or days with Tim Tebow. Keyshawn, JWill & Max is a good show. Max is running things while getting Key's perspective and a little JWill. First Things First, now with Chris Broussard is better than First Take and lastly Undisputed. Uncle Shay be giving it to Skip every single day. Then in the afternoon we have NBA Today.
Really no need to watch First Take now even if fine ass Charly is hosting.
I have to admit I have not watched a full episode or even 10 straight min since Max left..
But I do check out the morning show on the regular
