Dianna Russini has reportedly decided to leave ESPN despite being offered a pay rise.
The 40-year-old has been one of the main NFL reporters on the sports broadcaster for the last eight years. According to the New York Post, despite ESPN’s best efforts, Russini rejected an increase in salary and will now join The Athletic as its top NFL insider.
Her role is expected to include writing NFL stories, appearing on its video platforms, and working on the publication’s podcasts. Prior to her ESPN career, Russini worked as the main sports anchor for WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. Lindsey Thiry, who previously worked for the LA Times, is expected to become a full-time NFL TV reporter for ESPN, while Kimberley Martin and Jeff Darlington could see their air time increased.
In recent months ESPN has been reducing its costs and has parted ways with several members of staff. The likes of Jeff Van Gundy, Keyshawn Johnson, and former NBA player Jalen Rose were all let go by the sports corporation. With the aim of letting go of those who were making seven figures per year, ESPN would be able to save more of their employees working behind-the-scenes.
In a memo published in June addressing the cutbacks, ESPN wrote: “This exercise will include a small group of job cuts in the short-term and an ongoing focus on managing costs when we negotiate individual contract renewals in the months ahead. “It’s important for you to know that these are difficult decisions, involving individuals who have had tremendous impact on our company.

Kendrick Perkins is the least charismatic analysts on ESPN, but yet he still has a job and is in line for a promotion. As a side kick or a substitute guest host when the regular on air talent is absent yes, but not as a main sports commentator or an anchor. I'm like GTFOH, either he knows somebody or has dirt on somebody. That choice is a major head scratcher.

I think ESPN loves Perk with his country talkin', messing up words and keeping it real opinions. Plus he's probably on a super cheap deal. Why keep Jalen Rose for 3M when you can keep Perk for 1M. I have no idea what they make but keep the lower paying guy even if he's not a talented as the people they let go for the stock price.
