No question he was one of the greatest. Muthafucka went nuts on "Runnin' With the Devil."

Just forgot...how in the hell is Vernon Reid or Nile Rogers not on the list?

Walsh, can you play any EVH? Running with the Devil and Ain't Talkin bout Love are pretty easy.

I even got most of the hammering part on Eruption down.

You know what it's funny you ask that cause I did play the beginning of running with the devil pretty well but haven't went back to in in months. I need to try that again. I was happy as fuck when I got down that slide in the beginning.

Jimi was not human.
He played the guitar upside down left-handed.

Simply out of this world.

I expected Eddie Hazel, George Benton, and a few others to be on this list.

Not to take ANYTHING from Jimi.....definitely a GOAT. But, if you learn non-traditionally it becomes "normal" for you. Death Row's bassist Tony Green also plays his bass upside down and left handed on all of those tracks.

Yep..

It's funny that when I first started playing again, I never imagined I'd be able to play songs by Jimi, EVH, or Zeppelin this soon.

Once you start studying how they play, you see the lil tendencies and and tricks they use...you see that alotta the riffs are ALOT easier than you think.

The real question is: when they do that, do they re-string the guitar? Before he was famous, Jimi, like most lefties, bought or borrowed a right handed guitar, then flipped the order of the strings, so that the heaviest string was still at the bottom. Therefore, there is no difference between right handed player as opposed to a left handed player - except for how the guitar isstructured. That part that stick out almost parallel to the neck could, concievably, hamper access to a string. But most lefties mmake accomodation for that. If you watch Jimi, he lifts his right hand over further to make a chord.

My list:

Jimi
Eddie Hazel
Freddie King
Michael Hampton
Ernie Isley
Buddy Guy
George Harrison
Brian May (on the strength of his tone on "We Are The Champions" alone!)
Jeff Beck
Duane Allman
BB KIng. He may have had limited skills - but the delivery of that blue note is primary,

And for the record, Stevie Ray Vaughn isnothing more than a copycat, so that white people can have their hope playing Black music without being N***** around them.

i love prince. not taking anything away from him, but you can see how much hendrix influenced him, so i rank hendrix higher for that.

As a person who loves music but doesn't completely understand music that I wasn't taught, what makes Jimi Hendrix better than Prince. Did I've heard a lot of Prince and he is by far one of the best I've ever heard if not the best I've ever heard. I don't know enough about Jimi honestly

Yup, I think it was in the video for a song he did with U2 in the 80's, while they were setting up to play, he mentioned to Bono or Edge that he couldn't do chords.

BB King was also one of the best BUT did you know

1) He couldn't play and sing at the same time

2) He couldn't play chords.

No, he did not.

That's an old homily that's been applied to many musicians over time.

What he did say, on more than one occasion was that Buddy Guy was the best he ever heard.
I think the exact quote Clapton said when asked how's it feel to be one of the best guitarists on the planet his reply was, "I don't know........You'll have to ask Prince that question." Me and my friend was just talking about this the other day. So it's pretty conceivable what he ment. Alot of people remeber that quote.

This is just one of the dozens of sources that will debunk that "best guitarist" crap.

I've already said what racist, sorry, eric clapton said about who he considered the best guitarist he ever heard was.
