Attendance and tv ratings for the AAF were trash the last 4 weeks. XFL part 2 will do the same thing. Hope Vince is willing to lose his entire fortune over the next 5-10 years to even get to the point that the XFL breaks even before he dies.

It's a fact that less kids are playing football. The NFL knows it and is trying to prepare for the future drop in fans. There is no need or support for a Spring league.

That's a misstatement fam...

Ratings actually started bumping up.. thats why TNT moved the games from B/R live to the broadcast nextwork..

If we would have had a game saturday and sunday.. CBS had Move two games to the main network.

Attendance had actually increased...

San Antonio regularly saw... 34K crowds.. Birmingham had their largest crown at 17k last saturday and Memphis got around 17 to 18k the last two games when Manziel signed..

I'm subscribed to the AAF reddit page and someone posted a story that I was thinking the same thing about when I heard that Condon was getting on board and that the Alliance app was focusing on a new way to gamble.

I believe this shit... 10000000% percent..

That mutherfucker sold pipedreams to get his hands on their App technology....

And then used some bullshit excuse to fold the league and run off with the shit.. since they made him majority owner.

How much of that was paid attendance? I know for a fact Birmingham tickets were being given out for free because the league was tired of showing empty seats on tv.

Also going to get Manziel was a dead giveaway the league was hurting for viewers. The league was a failed experiment with great ideas. I liked the no kickoff rule, extra point plays, overtime rules, and referee in the sky box. I hope the NFL uses them in the future.

The league was losing money period fam. That's why they had to get another owner after week 3. Trying to argue that the league was doing well is just not true.

i'm not disagreeing about the league losing money....

There is NO WAY a semi pro team is going to make a profit the first season...

The billing for this league was that they had the Capital in place to survive 3 years......... They were supposed to be designed to take the hit the first year..

The problem was that they started this thing.. with a lack of true infrastructure.

"The $250 million investment hits what the spokesperson referred to as a milestone in getting more capital for the start-up football league. Ebersol told the Associated Press on Tuesday that the AAF will not be seeking new investors at this time. "We won't bring in anybody for capital. We're not going to take people's money," he said. "We have to decide who are the partners we want to be in business with. The Alliance already has great relationships with partners such as MGM (Resorts). There won't be any money-raising. It will be growing the business."

Ebersol told CBS Sports in January that a key challenge for the Alliance was the lack of infrastructure from the start, whereas when Dick Ebersol, Charlie's father, helped launch the XFL 2001, that infrastructure with NBC Universal and General Electric was already in place. "

The AAF was Venture Capitalist funded.......... The almost folded in the Second Week because their largest investor backed out at the last minute... So Dundon came in to save the business.. But I do think that Dundon had a Bigger Play in Mind when he took over the company... Kats have to remember that Dundon is basically the Guru of the Subprime lending game...

The Ringer article for Feb... points this out..

"The big question is how long the AAF can survive without financial support from the NFL. Dundon’s investment will keep the lights on for a while, but eventually one of three things has to happen: either the AAF has to turn a profit, it has to generate enough buzz to entice other big investors, or the NFL has to step in and buy a stake in the enterprise. The road to the first two options involves selling the AAF as its own entertainment product, which would make it unique among the major American sports, where minor league clubs are either owned or partially funded by their parent organizations.

In order for the NFL to take on the cost of the third option, the AAF would have to prove itself valuable enough to expand into a traditional farm system, but not so valuable that the NFL can keep siphoning off the AAF’s best players indefinitely without needing to invest in the minor league’s infrastructure.

Making the AAF a long-term success—or at least successful enough over a long-enough term to convince the NFL to buy the league—is going to take foresight, discipline, creativity, and more than a little luck. Building a successful football league is much more difficult than stewarding an established NHL franchise or profiting off subprime car loans, but Dundon has bet $250 million that the AAF can stand the test of time."..

This Ringer article was dropped before the news that came out last week.... and this is exactly what Dondon had to be hoping for when took over Majority interest.. I think he planned on the NFL buying in as a investor... which would increase his shares of the company and then he would sell his interest for a sizeable profit.

I've said that since the beginning.. Once the article dropped about this being VC based and Condon coming to provide an investment... I saw the writing on the wall as to the longevity of the product... but I at least hoped they would finish out the Season...

But the way the Business was ran is completely separate from the product... and in the last four weeks.... Attendance and Viewership were increasing..

That's why I said point about the attendance and the ratings decreasing ...... is wrong...

AAF Final Attendance Report? The League never hit 500k in attendance for the season
commanders-1024x576.jpg

I want to keep adding fuel to the fire, because I am pissed that the AAF Majority Owner is acting like a baby, but here is what we found out. The total in paid attendance for the every game ended up being 489,330 in attendance. That is less that a half of million in total attendance after 32 games. If you break that down per game it was an average of 15,292 fans per game. That is not a bad number and is higher than many of the teams overall. So let’s go through each teams overall average to see who had the best average in their home games.

  1. San Antonio Commanders – in 4 games totaled 110,882 in paid attendance which equals 27,721 fans per game
  2. Orlando Apollos in 3 home games totaled 58,943 in paid attendance which equals 19,648 fans per game.
  3. San Diego Fleet – in 4 games totaled 76,617 in paid attendance which equals 19,154 fans per game
  4. Birmingham Iron – in 4 games totaled 71,535 in paid attendance which equals 14,307 fans per game
  5. Memphis Express – in 4 games totaled 51,776 in paid attendance which equals to 12,944 fans per game
  6. Atlanta Legends – in 4 games totaled 43,581 in paid attendance which equals 10,895 fans per game
  7. Arizona Hotshots – in 4 games totaled 39,727 in paid attendance which equals to 9,932 fans per game
  8. Salt Lake City Stallions – in 4 games totaled 36,269 in paid attendance which equals to 9,067 fans per game

Why would Tom Dundon suspend the AAF, unless he was given bad information?
Tom Dundon came in as the majority investor on February 19th, 2019. That was less than a few weeks ago, when the Carolina Hurricanes owner invested 250 million dollars into the Alliance of America Football League.

Many thought for sure the league would make it through their first season with the investment, and now they have suspended the league until further notice. This pissed me off, as well as many others, supporting the league, but it also upset Bill Polian the former Buffalo Bills General Manager.

“I am extremely disappointed to learn Tom Dundon has decided to suspend all football operations of the Alliance of American Football,” Polian said in a statement. “When Mr. Dundon took over, it was the belief of my co-founder, Charlie Ebersol, and myself that we would finish the season, pay our creditors, and make the necessary adjustments to move forward in a manner that made economic sense for all.

“The momentum generated by our players, coaches and football staff had us well positioned for future success. Regrettably, we will not have that opportunity.”

It sounds like Dundon shocked not only Polian but Charlie Ebersol as well. The AAF has been doing pretty well in attendance so far through week 8, and now a suspension of the league is a huge problem. The sad thing is last week Dundon tried to strong arm the NFL into using practice squad players and not one person in the NFL or the NFLPA budged. The NFL does not need a farm system in their opinion. The farm system needs the NFL, which is why it makes no sense to take this approach. I am almost wondering if Dundon was told that there would be more involvement from the NFL and he was starting to realize the NFL was not really as interested as initially he suspected.

With this being said, It is just speculation, but if Tom Dundon does not let the playoffs and regular season play out it would be a huge injustice to the players. I know it is his pocket book, but let’s face it, his pocketbook is deep.

AAF Suspends Football Operations: Why the League Might Be Folding After Just 8 Games

  • The AAF will announce its suspending operations on Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET
  • The announcement comes just weeks after Tom Dundon sunk $70 million in cash into the upstart football league.
  • The AAF only has had eight weeks of competition, with four more remaining, including the Championship Game. Jeff Sherman from the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook said they would refund all futures bets made on which team would win AAF Championship Game.
Just eight weeks after playing its first games, the Alliance of American Football (AAF) will be suspending football operations.

Sources tell The Action Network that players will be told around 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday that this is their last day. Other employees in football operations will be told their last day is Wednesday.

Tom Dundon effectively bought a majority stake in the league in mid-February, with the league announcing his commitment of $250 million. It later became clear that Dundon, who owns the Carolina Hurricanes, was funding the league on a week-to-week basis, with his approximate total commitment being $70 million to this point.

After the deal with Dundon, sources say it became clear to league co-founders Charlie Ebersol and Bill Polian that Dundon’s objectives were different from the original plan.

Ebersol and Polian’s plan was to develop the league for three years on its own before becoming a feeder system to the NFL. Dundon, however, wanted to create that minor league relationship immediately and sought to use the leverage of folding the AAF to get a deal with the NFL Players Association to better insure a flow between leagues.

As it stood, the NFL collective bargaining agreement would not allow several of Dundon’s asks, including a flexible system between AAF players and NFL practice squads.

According to sources, the AAF had a call with reps from the NFLPA on Monday and a potential relationship showed some signs of life, so Tuesday’s news came as a surprise to some league executives.

Before Dundon came along, the league’s main investor was Reggie Fowler, as The Action Network first reported on March 27.

Fowler, who was initially going to buy the Minnesota Vikings before having financial issues, committed $170 million to the AAF, according to sources. After being vetted and suggested to the AAF by NFL executives themselves, Fowler had only put up $28 million by the time Dundon swooped in.

While Dundon funded the league payroll, sources say he did not pay vendors that worked with the AAF, many of whom are still looking for their money. It’s of debate what party — either Dundon or the first ownership group, which was diluted by Dundon’s investment — should foot the vendor bills.

When Dundon agreed to back the league, sources say he took unilateral control of the board, meaning any decision he wanted to make, including folding the league, was his to make.

Polian had this to say in a statement:

“When Mr. Dundon took over it was the belief of my co-founder, Charlie Ebersol, and myself that we would finish the season, pay our creditors, and make the necessary adjustments to move forward in a manner that made economic sense for all.

The momentum generated by our players, coaches and football staff had us well positioned for future success. Regrettably, we will not have that opportunity …

I sincerely regret that many that believed in this project will see their hopes and efforts unrewarded. They gave their best for which I am deeply grateful. Unfortunately, Mr. Dundon has elected this course of action.”

The AAF investment is comprised of a bunch of companies, including a tech arm, which MGM invested in. Part of the league’s original strategy was to use mobile gaming to drum up fan interest. While Dundon is said to have liked the tech component of the business and owns the entire company, sources say it would not be legal for him to shut down the league in order to strip the assets.

In January 2018, WWE chairman Vince McMahon announced that he would bring back the XFL in name and logo only. The new league — which is being billed as a gimmick-free version of what originally launched in 2001 and lasted for a year — is set to debut in 2020. Sources told me last year that McMahon planned to spend close to $500 million for the league’s first three seasons and that he had sold $361 million in WWE stock to fund Alpha Entertainment, whose only asset at this time is the XFL.

Charlie Ebersol announced the AAF two months later but leapt ahead of McMahon’s timeline by launching his league right after this year’s Super Bowl.

Sources said that the XFL is interested in AAF assets, specifically players and equipment.

Damn Tom Dundon is coming out of this looking like a Gawd damn James Bond Villain...

The more I look into this... the more I’m beginning to think that dude did this to acquire the tech....

Cause shit doesn’t make sense...

4 weeks ago... you publicly come to say you invest 250 million in the league when in reality you spent just 70 million....
You use this to leverage majority control over the operation... even the ability to completely fold over the objections of the co-founders.
You reach out to sign Johnny Manziel.... 3 weeks ago...
You don’t authorize paying the vendors...

Then less then a week ago... you randomly go public threatening to shut the entire league... if the NFL doesn’t give them access to practice squad players (something the league never talked about prior)
... you do this when they league is just starting to be completely accepted by the fans

And now you completely and randomly shut the league down ....... in the middle of the season...

Without giving an explanation to the cofounders.....

Man these lawsuits are going to be nasty

And if I was a Capitals fan.... I’d be fucking nervous about the owner of your team..

Last nugget for the night... ..... as a lawyer.....

while Im supremely depressed about the league.... Im fascinated thinking about all the potential legal consequences.... I mean this is going to get nasty as fuck...

Not only do you have to refund tickets.... but you have vendors... Stadium deals.... that probably all breached when he shut down operations prior to fulfilling home team commitments.

It is insane fam

A legitimate cable series could be made about this...

Imagine if Dundon is a dame devious genius and hustled all this for the gambling app and the nfl ends up BUYING IT FROM HIM?

And imagine if the other partners and maybe even the fed get involved saying what he did was either not done in good faith or illegal?

This story is better than the game were

Although quiet is kept?

The games were NOT that bad.
