I caught up and fin this show back in March.

People blew it off saying it don’t make sense and is impossible.

But if you watch the show and get the info on how Gilead was formed, events today is playing out like the show.

These crazy, right wing, religious nuts are using the economy, pandemic and protests to boost their agenda right now.

And there have been mofos who believe in that Gilead shit silently announcing their bids for local, state and federal govt positions.

I remember when I first watched it thinking there's no way this can happen in real life because they would have to stage a coup of the largest military force in the world to pull it off. But then, Trump deployed Federal troops to various cities to kidnap, intimidate, and beat up protesters exercising their First Amendment rights... and nothing was done about it. So now, I wouldn't stake everything on American military refusing to obey an unlawful order.

When the President pardons Navy Seals who commit war crimes so heinous their own brothers-at-arms testify against them, we can't count on the UCMJ to save us.

How The Trump Kingdom Almost Made 'The Handmaid's Tale' A Reality

Gilead is a fictionalized version of the United States that's been taken over by an oligarchy made up of mostly men known as The Committee.

The insurrectionists' attack on the United States Capitol was a huge wake-up call. Fringe groups following then-President Donald Trump attempted a siege in an effort to overturn the 2020 election. They called for Congress and Vice President Mike Pence to step in and outright change the results, rioting when their demands went unheard. The scary fact is the mob that descended on the Capitol didn't just want an election result thrown out. They had other plans, too.

Contrary to what the radical groups said they planned, the insurrectionists began an onslaught. They assaulted Capitol Police, vandalized most of the complex, and specifically targeted individuals like Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Their actions showed the intent went beyond overturning a supposed fraudulent election; a lot more was at stake.

How Far Would They Have Gone?

Chanting of "Hang Mike Pence" and a noose and gallows erected in the walk up to the U.S. Capitol were the first signs that the group intended on razing the government. The mob's call to execute an elected official for not adhering to the MAGA party's will is startling because it highlighted their goals, and they probably wouldn't have stopped there.

Footage from within the Capitol showed rioters getting cozy in the Senate chamber as if they were taking over for the absentee lawmakers. Some of them tried to lay claim to the seats, hinting at their intent to become a self-elected committee. Capitol Police, fortunately, took control of the situation before the mob got what they wanted. They did, however, come very close with lawmakers having to shelter in place in undisclosed locations.

Had the rioters succeeded, we'd be living in a much darker version of the United States—a world very similar to Gilead on The Handmaid's Tale.

Gilead's Significance

For anyone unfamiliar with Gilead, it's a fictionalized version of the United States that's been taken over by an oligarchy made up of mostly men known as The Committee. They rule over the so-called "Divine Republic" with an iron will, bending the world to how they see fit. The changes they institute range from forcing women to have children to subjecting any objectors to horrific tortures. And their government is nonexistent, save for the small group who elected themselves to power.

What's striking about Gilead is the event that turned America's democratic republic into a dystopian world is an attack on the Capitol. It set off a chain of events that led to a country forever changed.

For us, the rise of Gilead needs to sink in because the insurrectionists' attempted coup had just as much potential to destroy the fabric of American society. The only reason they failed was that brave men and women put themselves in harm's way to ensure the safety of our rightfully-elected public officials. But had things turned out differently, we'd likely be in the middle of a civil war, heading down a path with a grim future for all.

The good news is Trump's America won't see the light of day again (hopefully). With his people's drive diminished and the F.B.I. hot on the tail of hundreds of rioters who attended the Capitol siege, they're returning to a life of obscurity. That, however, doesn't mean we should throw a blind eye to the cult. Because while the situation did work out in the end, the casualty list could've been much longer, and it would've left a stain on American history for which we could never recover.

The Handmaid's Tale: Season 4 Teaser

Let freedom reign. The Handmaid’s Tale, the 15x Emmy-winning series, returns for Season 4 on April 28, 2021, only on Hulu.

About Season 4: The cultural phenomenon picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead. But the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships.

I got two things from that trailer-- Expect a lot of Nick, which is not great IMO. I was pulling for her and Luke so I did not like that kiss. But the more interesting takeaway was "I am June Osbourne, I am a citizen of the United States." I think more international interaction and presenting more of a global perspective would be good for the show. I'm going to give this upcoming season a shot.

Binged Season 4's episodes that have come out this afternoon.

June has finally made it out of Gilead, but she is suffering from severe PTSD and her daughter Hannah is still in Gilead.

3 episodes left for the season and it has been renewed for a Season 5.

I've been watching it week by week. The most recent was the best yet IMO. Love the change of scenery and the new relationships being explored, not the same old shit like last season.

Did June rape Luke?

I think it was more of her going thru PTSD over the years with all the sexual dysfunction in Gilead.

Luke tried earlier to get with her and she pulled away and he respected her cuz he knew what she had been thru.

I looked it up and the book ended with June being taken away and it was left up in the air if she made it too safety or not. The book ended about 100 years in the future with historians reading June’s notes on her experience.

The author wrote a sequel back in 2018. Have not looked into yet to avoid any spoilers. Not sure if the series is going to follow the sequel novel.

My theory is June will return to Gilead and rescue Hannah, but make the decision to stay being she is all fucked up in the head.

I told my wife this, "are they trying to make this white bitch, some type of Harriet Tubman character."
I like the show, even though it is overhyped, I resent that many viewers who champion this show can't see the real life corollary of black people and the rest of the 99% dealing with fascism in america. Meanwhile, Underground, which was a better show gets cancelled.

It’s gonna be next to impossible to try what she did with those kids for a second time.

Everybody in Gilead knows who she is and what she did. They catch her again, she going straight to the Wall with a noose around her neck. No trial or anything.

The only way she can be successful is getting Aunt Lydia on her side. It looks like Julia might have woken her up when they were in the prison.

Aunt Lydia is in high standing amongst the Commanders. She got a lot of pull and inside information that could work in Julia’s benefit.

“Spoiler Alert”

June is a egotistical sociopath and I can’t wait to see her on the wall in Gilead. The bitch is insubordinate, she always wants to run shit everywhere she goes. I’ve lost count of the number of people that have died fucking with her. She gave up the other Handmaidens for her own interest. She reminds of a female Jax Teller and a trump supporter, selfish and sociopathic.

I think June and her former overseers (they couple in jail for crimes against humanity) are going to go undercover to get June's firstborn out. That is the deal they gonna make in order to redeem themselves and get free to raise their own baby... Also i need to see aunt Lydia die slow & horribly.

If they want to keep the series somewhat realistic, the Canadian politicians would not allow her to do that.

and do you think that the union sanctioned tubman's actions?

or that the canadian gov't sanctioned tubman's actions?

I'd give season 3 an F right now but there's still a quarter season to go, so hopefully they salvage it in some way.

Season 4 was really good! June was not Harriet Tubman anymore but a real person and they did a great job examining her psychology and trauma, along with the other main characters. I'm really surprised it was so good.

Yeah, she was the first to open a KFC in the South.

What kind of stupid question is that?

They are not gonna make her a “Harriet Tubman” character. Gilead as backward as they are are heavily equipped. It’s been stated in the show they have a strong and secure military. It’s why other nations have not made a move against them and have only done economic sanctions on them.

If you paid attention when June was on the boat. The crew was pissed off when they found out who she was. Her presence on that boat would completely fucked up what negotiations Canada and Gilead had in order to do the relief work they were doing.

The show has not gone into how technically and advanced Gilead is because it is not the focus of the show. It’s obvious they are by the techniques that June had to use to get out.

Looking forward to next season.

But they need to make it the last. The author already wrapped up the story in her books, I think the producers are stretching it to make a quick buck.
