** The HBO Series "The Wire" Question & Answer Thread **

I saw a screening of The Wire Season 7 and it opens up 16 years later and the opening scene is a girl getting a train ran on her.

It was shown explicitly to demonstrate the sexual politics of the streets.
 
It was popular when it aired lol
impact vs sales

low ratings for s1 and was not watched by the "right" demos a la Mad Men
then s1 dvd sets were being passed around colleges like hot cakes
along with s2 being whiter - s2 was the highest rated of the 5 seasons
imo long hiatus btwn s2 s3 hurt but thats when college professors started courses about the show
 

 

The newspapers were never really culturally relevant and if it weren't for The Black Press, the medium would be totally useless.
