'In Living Color' revived by Fox

Fox is bringing back early 1990s sketch comedy series In Living Color — with original producer Keenen Ivory Wayans as host and executive producer. The network has ordered two half-hour primetime specials that will air in midseason, Deadline first reported, with an option for a series order if the episodes perform strong.

Fox getting back into the sketch comedy game is definitely interesting, and Color was a ground-breaking show — countering NBC’s East Coast college frat-friendly humor on Saturday Night Live with a more diverse and raunchy style that helped define Fox’s early years. Moreover, Color helped launch the careers of the Wayans brothers, as well as Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx — plus Jennifer Lopez, who was one of the show’s “fly girl” dancers. What do you think of the revival? Does homey play dat? Here are a couple classic sketches:

They should have did this instead of that Affion Crockett show. Crockett should ask Wayans for a spot in the cast, he might be better in small doses. If Keenan is back in charge, i don't see why Damon, Shawn, Marlon, Kim or Damon Jr. wouldn't be on the show. Only one that seems to have current success is Damon Jr. with the 2 shows he's on already...

Martin Lawrence May Return to Series Television on CBS

Nearly fifteen years after leaving the small screen, Bad Boys and Big Momma's House star Martin Lawrence is eyeing a TV comeback. Vulture has learned that CBS is deep into negotiations on a deal with Lawrence that would have the actor star in and executive produce his own comedy series for the network, whose sister studio CBS Television Studios would produce. There's no word yet on a writer for the project. Usually, talent-holding deals like the one Lawrence is close to signing result in several writers pitching possible projects for the actor, with the talent, network, and studio all ultimately deciding to move forward with one idea.

Before becoming a major late-nineties box office draw, Lawrence starred in one of the Fox network's earliest live-action sitcom successes, playing the titular role in more than 130 episodes of Martin from 1992 until 1997. (Sheneneh, "Damn, Gina!" etc.) The show went on to have a successful and profitable run in syndication. Assuming the Lawrence deal results in a series — most likely during the 2012-13 season — Lawrence would add diversity to a network-TV comedy landscape which currently boasts few African-American actors as the central focus of a sitcom. As long as Lawrence stays out of drag for his CBS series, his return to TV could be a good thing.

....this will not end well.....:smh:

what makes you think this is going work ? the last season, fox left keenan crying in the car, all the wayans left, they hired a couple of unfunny asians and in living color turned into the jim carrey show. also didn't fox screw keenan over profits? :( :smh:

I don't know if this will be a hit, the "whole black comedy sketch" idea seems a bit cliche'. Some of that show was grounbreaking back then, but a lot of it today, would be considered cooning.

I dunno about this, I'm very skeptical. They should just leave it alone. The reason why In Living Color worked back then was cause it was very ground breaking for it's time in terms of the material and content which was taboo at times. In Living Color as a sketch comedy tackled issues surrounding black issues or just in general popular culture with a hip hop flavor to it. At that time hip hop was just in it's infancy stage. Overall the comedy was a reflection of the time too.

Bringing back very iconic entertainment whether it be movies or television that defined an era in entertainment history never really works. Times have changed now and reviving this show is not gonna have the same effect as it did when it came on tv in the early 90's.

I know david allen grier and tommy davidson aint doin shit, bring them back. I know it will be unrealistic to have jamie, jim carrey, and shawn and marlon, but it might have potential to be funny. You have to have damon involved tho

:smh: Naw leave it alone. I hate when movies do this now it's starting with Tv shows. Is there that much lack of creativity where you have to rehash old tv shows now? I'm sorry but I hope this fails horribly.

I came in here thinking it was just some reunion special or something. If they want to do sketch comedy then do it but call it something else.

That shit will Epic Fail. I will watch one show. I don't think I'll laugh once. They really should leave my childhood alone and stop resuscitating dead shit. Let it die.

YEs there is that much lack of creativity. Everything is a copy. Plus every network looking for a quick buck, hence the reality show. Much easier to show old ideas to new generations with fresh, ignorant eyes, than to come up with new ideas for jaded, "I've seen everything" and bored with it old people.

So easily said but done how many times in television history?

How do you credit something for being groundbreaking and then say that ground can never be walked on again?

"Black sketch comedy" is no more dead than sketch comedy-- It just has to be done well, like all sketch comedy.

And what was Chappelle's Show, by the way? The same old shit as In Living Color?
