For the longest she didn’t do any nude scenes in movies probably because of her Iranian heritage. She was several seasons of the L Word. Maybe the money was good this time around.

If that was the case, then being in the L word period would have been a problem. And as you noted, she did do brief nudity there and a couple of shows since. It's likely just a situation like JLH, who wish she had done nudity due to how her body changed after having kids. Except Shahi was able to largely get back to how she was after having 3.
She's using prothestics in Sex/Life to represent body changes before and after having baby.
