The reality is we can’t be having all these people freely coming into the country. If Democrats were smart they would finish up the border wall at and go hard on illegal immigration. Most people agree people can’t just come here this way. It puts a strain on resources. No country in the world allows this type of shit.
Not true.
Colombians have been accepting Venezuelan border crossers with open arms these last few years. Likewise, when Columbia was having its own issues Venezuela welcome them as well. Meanwhile, any citizen of the EU can live and work in whatever EU countries they want.
Countries often help their neighbors in times of trouble because one day they might need that same help themselves.
Also, the border wall has very little to do with illegal immigration. It might stop a few people from getting in, but it does absolutely nothing for the illegal immigrants already here, except make it harder to leave. Most people who enter the country, legally or illegally, have no intention of staying permanently.
Right now most illegal immigrants can't be deported because they have pending cases. Others are quietly waiting in the wings to see if the law changes in a way that allows them legal residence.
That's how I got my green card.
IMO the answer is to cut ICE's budget and reallocate those funds for more immigration courts and agents so that these cases can be processed faster. This is crucial because the longer an illegal immigrant lives in the United States the more likely they are to find grounds to stay
The second thing would be to review all the naturalization laws and get rid of the ones that don't make sense. After that enforce a 5-year moratorium on any changes.
Final thing that I would do is hire agents to travel the world and interview the millions of people who are on waiting list for visas. With a 20-year backlog I wouldn't be at all surprised if a lot of these applicants have died or changed their minds. Perhaps we can even start offering cash to people who voluntarily take their name off the list.
A shorter list makes it easier for qualified applicants to get in the "right way". No wall scaling skills needed.
