Leno wasnt funny either to me. Coblert, Daily show, and even Desus and Mero funnier that Fallon and Kimmel
Jay Leno can crank out 40 jokes before you finish your first post. Leno is still touring. He’s funny. Letterman was the unfunny one.

And you guys know how I feel about Fallon: if I were to hit the lottery, I would build a time machine to when Fallon was funny. None of us would ever be here.

Basically. I haven't watched a fucking late night show since Arsenio in the 90s

Conan was good when he didn't have Andy.

Conan had the Tonight Show for a short while but he was too left leaning for the old CAC watchers. They wanted Johnnie Carson #3 but
Conan always had Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube on and masturbating bears. Jay Leno came back and Conan left to cable then
the NBC execs pull up "safe" for conservatives Fallon.

I've never seen that as Leno's fault I blame NBC.

Leno was leading late night and NBC basically gave him an ultimatum with a deadline attached to hand his show over to Conan which he reluctantly did with a gun to his head.

They then made it worse by giving him a 10pm show which fucked Conan.

In the process they killed any chance Conan had of being successful with the tonight show, damaged Leno's reputation beyond repair and therefore neither he or Conan could contest Fallon taking over the tonight show.
All of this. If NBC didn't want Leno to leave, all they had to do was buy Conan out of his contract and let him walk. But they were afraid of either how that would look or that Conan might sign up somewhere else and be competitive (AKA Letterman 2.0), so they showed Leno the door. Leno could've legged it out or walked away clean, but he didn't really want to leave either. So they literally built their entire primetime lineup around Leno's new show, which was a bullshit idea to begin with.

I kept saying that if Leno/NBC wanted him to stay on the air and maintain his legacy, he should've launched a weekly variety show. Drop that shit on Sunday when all of the old people are home anyway, crank it out for 90-120 minutes, and basically run it like Sabado Gigante (or one of those crazy ass Spanish shows). Even if it didn't pull huge numbers, people probably still would've watched. No feathers would have gotten ruffled, and Leno ends up as the Ed Sullivan of his time.

As far as Fallon goes, he's fairly one-dimensional, but I give him credit for building a show around things that work and that he's capable of pulling off. Has it become weaker over time because of it? Sure. But I didn't think he would even work as a host when they first gave him the show, so it's a small miracle that it paid off at all.

Conan O'Brien's late-night show shortened to half-hour

Conan O’Brien’s TBS late-night talk show will be reduced from an hour to 30 minutes with fewer celebrity appearances and more traveling specials starting in 2019.

O’Brien’s show “Conan” will still air four days a week but will include more digital content from in an expanded partnership with Team Coco, TBS announced.

"Since I inherited my Late Night show in 1993, TV has changed exponentially. I'd like to think I have evolved with many of these changes, but now it's time to take the next leap," O'Brien wrote in a press release. "A half-hour show will give me the time to do a higher percentage of the comedy in, and out, of the studio that I love and that seems to resonate in this new digital world. It's still going to be me hosting a very silly show, but I want segments on my half-hour program to link to digital content, deepening the experience for my younger fans, and confusing my older ones."

O’Brien, 55, is the longest-tenured late-night host and has the youngest audience out of all the talk show talents, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His videos have more than 3.4 billion views.

Team Coco hopes to feature some new talent, including stand-up comedians, and original content. O’Brien is planning a multi-city tour with these new comics later this year.

"Not only does Conan have an epic history of working on one of the most prestigious and long-running shows in comedy, the way he and his team have evolved the show over the past five years to create touch points that weave linear, digital and live for fans and brands is impressive. I am excited to be a part of the team as TBS and Team Coco double down on being funny everywhere," TBS and TNT president Kevin Reilly said in a statement.

Last year, O’Brien noted that late-night shows were changing and was “eager to evolve” his series into “something leaner, more agile and more unpredictable.”

Smart move IMO.

He's recognizing that the old talk show blueprint is stale and is instead focusing on what his show can do differently.

Additionally by shortening the episodes he can concentrate on the quality of the material he puts out as opposed to stretching what he has so that it is enough to fill an hour.

Conan has really suffered from glut of options on late night. I used to watch his show regularly til Deus and Mero.

but I think is a good move for Conan. His show does tend to drag especially since he usually has c list celebs in 4th block

he is at his best with travel show specials

Fallon addresses Trump feud on air: 'Shouldn't he have more important things to do?'

Jimmy Fallon took his Twitter beef with Donald Trump offline and on the air Monday, opening his Tonight Show monologue by giving a sarcastic shout-out to “our show’s number-one fan — the president of the United States.”

Still bemused that the leader of the free world would bother to slight him on social media, Fallon said, “When I saw that Trump insulted me on Twitter, I was gonna tweet back immediately, but I thought, ‘I have more important things to do.’ Then I thought, ‘Wait, shouldn’t HE have more important things to do?’ He’s the president! What are you doing? Why are you tweeting at me?!”

The late-night host also had a message for first lady Melania Trump: “If you’re watching, I don’t think your anti-bullying campaign is working.”

Fallon’s remarks, previewed in a transcript from NBC, came a day after President Trump went after him on Twitter, apparently displeased because Fallon recently expressed regret (yet again) over that infamous hair tussle.

Fallon initially responded to Trump’s tweet by taking the high road, announcing that he would make a donation in Trump’s name to RAICES, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services.

In his monologue Monday, he added, “When Trump heard, he was like, ‘I love RAICES — they’re my favorite peanut butter cup.”

Fallon — who, unlike many of his late-night peers, isn’t know for taking shots at Trump — added a few more digs, including this one: “A new poll found that 58 percent of Americans think President Trump is intelligent. In response, Trump was like, ‘Okay, what did the other 58 percent say?’”

The Roots is the best part of The Late Show. Jimmy funny sometimes, and the skits are ok. But The Roots...

Conan is a fool. I don't catch is show at all cause I'm either preoccupied or sleep, but YT usually catches me up on both. I could watch Conan on the regular though.

Jimmy Fallon Apologizes Again for Blackface SNL Sketch: ‘I’m Not a Racist’
By Devon Ivie@devonsaysrelax

A week after addressing and apologizing for his “terrible decision” to be involved in a blackface SNL sketch in 2000, Jimmy Fallon kicked off his new slate of Tonight Show episodes on Monday with “a different kind of show” — where he apologized, once again, for choosing to impersonate Chris Rock with a full face of black makeup and a beard. “I’m not a racist. I don’t feel this way,” Fallon explained. “I realized that I can’t not say I’m horrified and I’m sorry and I’m embarrassed. I realized that the silence is the biggest crime that white guys like me and the rest of us are doing, staying silent. We need to say something. We need to keep saying something. And we need to stop saying ‘that’s not okay’ more than just one day on Twitter.”
Speaking with NAACP president Derrick Johnson, Fallon admitted that he was advised to “just stay quiet and not say anything” when the blackface clip started to circulate and gain steam around social media. He disagreed at the time, and released a short statement of apology. However, in the aftermath of the political and cultural reckoning of George Floyd’s death, Fallon felt that his statement was inadequate and sought to open up further dialogue on The Tonight Show. “We cannot try to bury this again. It’s not going to get buried. It’s not going away,” Fallon said about Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. “You can’t just hope everyone loves each other. We can’t say ‘be the change’ and just sit around tweeting ‘be the change, be the change.’”

Later in the show, Fallon welcomed Don Lemon, who over the weekend harshly called out his celebrity friends for their inaction over Floyd’s death. Lemon admitted that while he doesn’t “always say the right things,” he doesn’t regret putting his pals on blast and appreciated Fallon educating himself about blackface. “That’s exactly what we all need to do, examine ourselves. That was very honest and brave of you,” Lemon said. “I wish more people would do that because we can’t go back to the way we were.”
