A Sex and the City reboot might be coming to HBO Max, the New York Post reports, and fans of the franchise couldn’t help but wonder … are the rumors finally true this time? Per “Page Six,” the show will return with a “limited-series reboot” involving all of its original stars, except for Kim Cattrall, who has very publicly stated that she wants no part of a potential revival. It’s unclear if the reboot would incorporate storylines from the never-made third movie, or if Samantha will be recast. HBO Max has not yet made an official statement on the rumors. Series star Sarah Jessica Parker has stated she’s interested in “revisiting” the characters, telling Entertainment Tonight last year, “I’d like to see where all of them are. I’m curious, the world has changed even since the movie.”

Sex and the City’ Revival Confirmed at HBO Max

Sex and the City” is getting the revival treatment at HBO Max, Variety has confirmed.

The new chapter is titled “And Just Like That…” and will star Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series, is not returning. Parker, Nixon and Davis will also executive produce, along with Michael Patrick King.

The revival will follow Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Charlotte York (Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Nixon) as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s. The series will consist of 10 half-hour episodes and is set to begin production in New York City in late spring.

Parker, Davis and Nixon all shared the long-rumored news on Instagram Sunday with a short teaser. The video cuts between footage of New York City and a computer screen, on which the phrases “And just like that…” and “The story continues…” are typed out along with Parker’s signature voiceover. Parker’s post is captioned, “I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now?”

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement.

“Sex and the City” was created by Darren Star based on Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name. The original series premiered on HBO in 1998 and ran for six seasons until 2004.

The show was made into two films, “Sex and the City” in 2008 and “Sex and the City 2” in 2010. A prequel series starring AnnaSophia Robb, “The Carrie Diaries,” also premiered on the CW in 2013.

This marks the latest in a string of reboots for HBO Max, which also has “Gossip Girl” and “True Blood” revivals in the works.

Jennifer Coolidge might be among the top five stylish blondes with impeccable comedic timing that came to mind when you found out Kim Cattrall really wouldn’t be returning for HBO Max’s Sex And The City sequel series as the iconic Samantha Jones, but she’s going to stop you right there. As the Legally Blonde 3 actress explained to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live Thursday night, there’s no way she could step into Cattrall’s Manolos for And Just Like That… In fact, no one can, because Kim Cattrall is simply too “perfect” to replace.
“You know, I was a huge, and still am a huge, Sex And The City fan,” Coolidge muses, when a viewer asks if she would consider playing Samantha Jones ‘or a character like her’ on the new series. “It’s one of those shows where you can watch the reruns and never get tired of them, but I have to say, I am such a Kim Cattrall fan. I don’t see anyone being able to replace her in that part.” Concluded the Promising Young Woman actress, “It was just the perfect…yeah, I don’t think you can replace her.”
Additionally, the new show would have to figure out how to explain the existence of Jennifer Coolidge’s previously established SATC character Victoria, who invited the ladies to the launch of her (terrible) new handbag line and ended up destroying her own party after catching Samantha hooking up with Smith Jerrod in the kitchen. (Please refer to Sex And The City Season Six Episode 3 “The Perfect Present.”) Would Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte really risk another “I’ve discovered I’m Fendi” free-for-all just because Sam is no longer with us?

It Sure Sounds Like the HBO Max Sex and the City Reboot Isn’t Killing Off Samantha
By Halle Kiefer@hallekiefer

Given Kim Cattrall’s absence from the forthcoming Sex and the City sequel series, fans have been riffling through the shredded lining of their Louis Vuittons searching for clues as to how And Just Like That … plans to dispatch the beloved Sam Jones. One popular theory suggests Cattrall’s iconic character might have a reoccurrence of breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in Sex and the City’s sixth season. In a new interview with TVLine, however, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys hints that the reason we won’t be seeing the Fab Four’s filthiest member is simply a matter of friendship and time.
“They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s. It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s,” Bloys says of the new show. As such, “just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave.” Explains Bloys, “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life … They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”

Chalking up Samantha’s omission to a natural drifting apart is a much less tragic narrative choice (and it leaves the door open for a cameo!), but still. It’s sad to know the woman who once declared, “Men, babies, doesn’t matter. We’re soulmates” is hypothetically out there in Manhattan right now, returning a broken vibrator to the Sharper Image, with a whole new set of fabulous gals.

BIG News! Chris Noth has officially joined the cast of And Just Like That, the Sex and the City revival from HBO Max.
Noth will reprise the role of John James "Mr. Big" Preston alongside series stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon. Mr. Big married series protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) in the first Sex and the City movie released in 2008.
"I'm thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That," said series executive producer Michael Patrick King in a statement released on Wednesday. "How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr. Big?"

The casting note did not reveal how many episodes Noth would appear in of the 10 confirmed for the show's first season.

And Just Like That will follow Carrie and her best friends Miranda (Nixon) and Charlotte (Davis) as they navigate the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. Kim Cattrall, who portrayed Samantha Jones on the series and both big-screen adaptations, opted not to return for the revival.
Series costume designer Patricia Field announced on Tuesday she won't be back on set either due to her commitments on Netlfix's second season of Emily in Paris. Molly Rogers, who worked alongside Field "from start to finish," will take over the job on And Just Like That.
There have been conflicting media reports about the return of John Corbett, who played fan-favorite Aidan Shaw (Carrie's former fiancé), and David Eigenberg, who starred as Steve Brady, Aidan's best buddy and Miranda's husband. HBO Max has neither confirmed nor denied their participation.

Sara Ramírez is the only confirmed new series regular to be announced thus far. The Grey's Anatomy alum will portray the franchise's first nonbinary character, a hilarious podcaster with a big heart named Che Diaz.

Last thing we need is a show on single white women in 2021 New York City, especially in their late 50s. #metoo, gentrification and white feminism? Nah I'm good! This ain't the late 90s and the early 2000s no more.

HBO didn't learn from Girls?

Yeah man! HBO just throwing shit till it sticks.

I love in NYC and to bring this show back in 2021 NYC ain't it. For the same reasons I mentioned above. People complained about Girls because it was privileged 20 something year old/millennial white women living in gentrified neighborhoods in NYC. It's not the 90s and early 2000s no more.

A 'Sex And The City' reboot script has just been leaked, and it looks like 'And Just Like That' is going to be a gamechanger for Carrie and Big
And Just Like That might be the show we're all waiting for, but how would you feel if we said a recent script leak shows Big might still be a low-key trash bag? Yup... it's a possibility. So warning, some spoilers ahead

Charlotte York's daughters appear to be back for the Sex and the City revival and they're all grown up

New photos of the And Just Like That set suggest that we'll be seeing a new generation of Manhattanites.

It's been 11 years since we've seen the ladies of Sex and the City, and Manhattan's most fashionable girlfriends aren't the only ones who have grown up over the years. New set photos from the upcoming HBO revival series And Just Like That confirm that Charlotte York (Kristin Davis)'s two daughters are far from the tiny children we last saw in Sex and the City 2. (Though they have, unsurprisingly, remained just as stylish as their mom.)
Actresses playing grown-up versions of the character's children were seen filming alongside Davis and Evan Handler, who plays Charlotte's husband Henry Goldenblatt. In the 2004 series finale, Charlotte and Harry adopted a baby girl named Lily from China. In the 2008 Sex and the City film, it's revealed that the couple also has a biological baby girl named Rose.

The York-Goldenblatt kids aren't the only "next-gen" Manhattanites in the mix — the new photos also reveal that we'll be seeing an older version of Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve (David Eigenberg)'s son, Brady.

Show representatives didn't immediately respond to EW's request for confirmation.

News of a revival for the beloved series broke in January via an announcement from Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker. Filming officially began earlier this month with most original cast members set to reprise their iconic roles, including Parker, Davis, and Nixon, as well Wille Garson's Stanford Blatch and Mario Cantone's Anthony Marentino. (Original cast member Kim Cattrall chose not to return for the series.) It's also been confirmed that Chris Noth, who played Carrie's main love interest Mr. Big, will return to reprise his role.
The 10 half-hour episodes will follow the lives of the three original galpals, now in their 50s, as they explore life, life, and friendships in their native New York. From the looks of the newest photos, it seems like the show will be a family affair — which feels pretty appropriate. After all, as Carrie once said, "The most important thing in life is your family."

Baby Brady is a big boy now.
Life in Pieces alum Niall Cunningham has joined the cast of Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That, playing Brady Hobbes, HBO Max has confirmed.
Brady is, of course, the ginger-haired son of Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve Brady (David Eigenberg). His name was the result of combining their two surnames together. Miranda and Steve were in an off-and-on relationship when Brady was conceived during season 4. The young character screamed his way through an episode or two back in 2002.
Joseph Pupo previously played the character, who was in grade school when Brady was last seen in the franchise in 2010's Sex and the City 2 movie.

Cunningham is no stranger to TV fans, having played Betsy Brandt and Dan Bakkedahl's son, Tyler Hughes, in the CBS comedy Life in Pieces, which ran from 2015-2019.
On Just Like That, Brady's girlfriend is played by Cree Ciccino (Mr. Iglesias).
HBO Max also confirmed the actresses playing the daughters of Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) and Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler). Playing eldest daughter Lily is Cathy Ang (Over the Moon, My Best Friend's Exorcism).
The couple adopted Lily from China in the series finale of the show after they struggled with fertility issues.

Their youngest child, Rose, is being played by Alexa Swinton, who plays Paul Giamatti's daughter, Eva, on Showtime's Billions and can be seen in M. Night Shyamalan's new film, Old.

Charlotte managed to conceive baby Rose during the first SATC film in 2007.

Nicole Ari Parker Is Replacing Kim Cattrall in the And Just Like That Core Foursome
By Bethy Squires

And Just Like That …, the Sex and the City revival is cramming a lot of new cast into the Samantha Jones–shaped void at its heart. The Guardian is reporting that the spot in Carrie’s innermost circle is being filled by Empire’s Nicole Ari Parker. Did she get the gig because she shares a last name with Sarah Jessica Parker? No, that would be insane. Unless …
Parker will be playing Carrie’s new BFF, documentarian Lisa Todd Wexley. She joins Sara Ramirez, Karen Pittman, and Sarita Choudhury in supporting roles on the show. Like many of the ’90s New York comedies, SATC has been criticized for turning one of the most diverse cities in the world into a place with the ethnic makeup of a 1950s country club. “That show was as white as it gets,” said Every Outfit on Sex and the City Instagram co-creator Chelsea Fairless. “They didn’t ever have a person of color as a series regular.” The same criticism has been leveled at Friends. (Yet the world remains silent on Caroline in the City.) Having a woman of color in the core four is a big step in making the world of And Just Like That … resemble the world in which we all live.
