Ben Affleck and Bill Maher clearly have differing views on Islam.

The Gone Girl star appeared on Friday's Real Time With Bill Maher, and the two sparred when Affleck felt Maher and guest Sam Harris were painting an overly broad and negative picture of those who practice Islam.

Affleck did not appreciate Harris' comment that Americans have been "sold this meme of Islamophobia." Affleck responded by asking Harris, "Hold on — are you the person who officially understands the codified doctrine of Islam?"

"It's gross, it's racist," Affleck added about Maher and Harris' remarks. "It's like saying, 'Oh, you shifty Jew.' " Maher told Affleck that he wasn't actually listening to them.​

Harris said Islam is currently the "motherload of bad ideas," with which Maher agreed, leading Affleck to counter: "It's just an ugly thing to say."

The whole Islam argument is an interesting one....Everyone knows there are good Muslims. However, as a Conservative correspondent pointed out you almost have to overlook that fact to address Islam today. She wasn't making this shit up either. Every known source of data points to an estimated 300 million radical Muslims in the world today. That's the equivalent of a country the size of ours....It took a handful to of these same radicals to plan and execute 911. She referred to the good Muslims as the irrelevant, peaceful majority. To back up her assertions she point out the majority of Germans and Russians were also peaceful as well but it didn't stop the extermination millions.....

The debate over Islam and ISIS remained hot on “Real Time with Bill Maher” last night.

Just one week after sparking controversy — and a heated response from religious scholar Reza Aslan on CNN — Bill Maher, Sam Harris and Ben Affleck (along with Michael Steele and Nicholas Kristof in smaller supporting roles) got into a fiery argument about radical Islam.

Maher called Islam “the only religion that acts like the mafia, that will fucking kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture or write the wrong book.” Affleck insisted that the number of radical Islamists was small, and that the entire religion could not be condemned in that way. Harris argued that radical beliefs in Islam are actually quite mainstream.

Maher has always been vehemently anti religious and Islam is just an easy target. It's low hanging fruit. Bill loves trashing ANY religion so it's a cakewalk to throw Islam under the bus especially if you are picking modern day 20th century religious examples and Islamic extremists are big on the world stage right now providing plenty of examples.

I said long ago Jon Stewart is much more real and tolerable than Bill Maher. That being said Affleck in no way ethered Bill. You need that Reza dude for that. My cousin adopted the Islamic faith. He runs his own business, has been married for eight years, and has two great, education focused kids.
