Sugar
Colin Farrell is great as private investigator John Sugar trying to find Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of Hollywood producer. I'm enjoying how stylish the show is ,the classic voice over of the Detective,and nods to classic films. Plus the character Sugar is very likeable. Some parts of the show are clichéd but the good is definitely outweighing the bad for the most part.
Ripley
I'm four episodes in but I still think 2003's Ripleys Game starring John Malkovich is still the best adaptation of a Tom Ripley story. Not that this series isn't good so far. It's closer to the book and the Italian film Purple Noon . This has that cold feel and definitely leans into the psychopath scammer Ripley is. It is detailed and then some and sometimes plays like a silent film as Ripley responds to near misses of being caught or knowing when he has to make a move. Andrew Scott portrays Ripley really well.
Enjoyed the Sugar pilot. Like you said - the lead is likeable & that really helps the story as you appreciate his interactions with different people. And that car he's driving is cool as fuck. Listened to an interview with Colin Farrell recently, and he said that was one of the highlights of the role ... getting to drive around in that beauty.
As for Ripley ... really well done series. Checked out episodes 3 and 4 and it holds your interest throughout. Cold-blooded, and thanks JBlaze for the intel about 2003's Ripley's Game. I never saw that movie - but will add it to the list.
Also finished 2010's The Pacific the other day.
Intense and well worth seeing. A solid companion piece to Band of Brothers.

It's about 4 women journalists from different news outlets covering a democratic primary from city to city leading up to a presidential election.
Main character is this a millenial chick who's a journalist that works for a legacy left leaning NYT type of newspaper. She's idealistic and has Hunter S Thompson talking to her now and again as her conscience.
Carla Gugino plays an investigative journalist with a Centrist Cable News outlet, The sista that plays Condola from "Insecure" is the wealthy Black Conservative who works for "Liberty News" a right wing Fox News type station. shes ambitious and upwardly mobile but is constantly frustrated working with those racist CAC's, and A chubby Persian chick is the GenZ, sexually fluid social media influencer covering the progressive/socialist candidate.
The candidates for the race are: a wealthy former Action movie star, an established Legacy female senator, an Elderly former Governor, a young, blue collar Small town Mayor, and a Young, Hip, AOC type progressive. They're all put together to cover the primary from city to city and interact with each other and find common ground despite their different beliefs.
It has elements of the Newsroom, The Good fight etc as far as political conversations and timely subject matter..but has the pacing, humor and kind of soapy drama elements of a Shonda Rhimes show. It's well done imo and we've been enjoying it so far
