Itd be nice to see JJ learn some offensive grappling and ground game. She is excellent at defending and getting up, but some submission attempts , top game, or some ground and pound would be nice to threaten with. It might be too late on her career to add it, but I noticed Valentina added those weapons very early. She knew she would be just as good on the ground as she was on the feet.

it is too late. she had mentioned she was thinking about having kids like 2 years ago.

Got in mid-evening from holiday. Have to go back and check the televised prelims portion in the next few days. Was able to catch the co-main and main-event, and went back and checked out that great firefight from Santos & Manuwa.

Props to Valentina on her big win. She's been well-deserving and fought plenty of tough competition. A nice validation for her. Joanna is now 1-3 in her past 4 (2 losses to Rose, a win over Torres, and a loss to Valentina).

Great fight from Holloway & Ortega in the main event. Big fan of both of their styles ... plenty of heart shown from each ... and a great stylistic MMA match-up for all the real fans that lived up to all the hype. Definitely delivered and then some!

well, JJ didnt talk trash this time

She's always respectful, especially to Valrntina. Her talking shit is about selling the fight, hyping herself up, and sometimes to gain a mental edge on the opponent. When you look at all those fighters, man or woman, she always shows up, always fights to win, and still has a ton of title defenses , as well as the record for appearances in title fights. See a game chick , period.

Yeah prolly. She's had a great run. She ain't gonna get that title from Valentina at 125, 115 weight cut is always gonna be a problem, and eventually she will start to lose. This would be a good time for her to exit. But she'll probably stick around and get a few more checks for maybe two years. She's hell for anybody out there, win or lose.

What might have been fun to watch (or an absolute snoozefest) is if Joanna has decided to really test her ground game against Valentina, instead of the standard escape routine she always does. They already had three fights in muai Thai, fuck it- go for it in the clinch and win or lose there. Oh well, it was still a great fight. When Valentina submitted Pena, I knew she was a threat everywhere. Joannas long ass limbs would probably be good for her if she had actively worked on offensive BJJ. But as we said before, too late now

Good point about what may have played out on the ground. Especially with someone moving up from 115 to 125, and the other moving down from 135lbs to 125. With both fighters weighing in under the 125 max. Agreed re: Pena. She's been known for her aggressive ground game over the years ... and it was good to see Valentina defeat her where she was strongest when they matched up previously. Hoping to see Pena back in there within the next year or so. She's had her child & has been working with Combates Americas' commentary/broadcast team as a side gig.
