SOME UNSOLICITED ADVICE
I see a lot of white folks on this app in shock over the racist attacks on VP Kamala Harris. We can handle it, but I need for everyone to understand what’s happening and what’s still to come.
There’s something that happens when a Black woman achieves success and especially power. SOME white people feel the need to humiliate her. We’ve seen it in our own lives with our mothers, wives, sisters, friends, leaders who have achieved success. They have to overcome this on the way.
Right-wing racists say that Kamala Harris is a DEI hire, even though she was the Attorney General of California, the largest population state in the U.S., elected to the United States Senate, served on Senate committees, elected Vice President of the United States, and cast tie-breaking votes as President of the Senate. They say she’s inexperienced, she’s not Black, she slept her way to the top. You name it. It’s ugly, but it’s expected.
I was a supporter of Harris during her first run for President and I have never seen the disinformation campaign and racist attacks hit the airwaves so quickly as it did after she announced. So if you’re a new supporter, get ready.
As a Black man supporting Harris, I get hit with the extra layer of racism directed at myself in replies to my posts as well. I expect this and I carry on, unbothered.
Handle one of two ways:
Option one: Ignore. Let them reveal their whole racist ass and their misogyny. They are not persuading anyone to join their side. But they will lose folks that way. Those that agree with them are already there. Don’t bother with trolls or small accounts. All that does is draw attention to their hateful replies when we do that.
Option two: Reply with facts about our VP, her accomplishments, her record and leave it alone. Don’t engage further. Their racism will only help Trump lose.
LET EM STAY MAD
