Val Kilmer, who died on Tuesday at the age of 65 after battling throat cancer, became one of the biggest stars of the ’80s and ’90s with a diverse array of films, ranging from action thrillers to biopics and comedies.

After scoring his first movie role in the 1984 action comedy “Top Secret,” Kilmer broke through with his performance in the sci-fi comedy “Real Genius” (1985) before soaring into the mainstream alongside Tom Cruise in 1986 blockbuster “Top Gun.” He then starred in Ron Howard’s fantasy “Willow” (1988) before receiving critical acclaim for his portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s 1991 “The Doors” biopic.

The ’90s brought a steady stream of hits for Kilmer, who became one of the best-paid actors of the decade. He took on the Western genre alongside Kurt Russell in “Tombstone” (1993), starred in crime dramas including Michael Mann’s classic “Heat” (1995) and became a superhero the same year with Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever.” In 1998, he voiced Moses in the animated musical “The Prince of Egypt,” and reunited with Oliver Stone for 2004’s “Alexander.” His career slowed down after he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015, and eventually lost most of his ability to speak, but in 2022 he returned to the big screen in “Top Gun: Maverick” for an emotional scene with Cruise.

For the fans yes, but for the actor I know it had to be weird.
It was his reality. I think that him suffering from the same ailments as his character in the movie And being able to perform what's a good thing. Imagine being an actor having train as an actor your whole life and now being suddenly unable to do it The way you used to.

I was in the Navy for 12 years, you know what I wouldn't give for one last cruise, even if it was just a short one? Feeling the water splash up, standing at the bow or at the back end ofthee flight deck, watching whales and sea turtles.

I can't speak for him, but I believe being in that movie, and being on set was cathartic

Top Secret was hilarious growing up and The Saint was dope too...

With an. Assist so folks can see the whole post. I'm glad that he was able to reflect on the charmed Life that he had. The last 10 years have been bad since he was diagnosed in 2014, but he had a really great run. That part is what really should be celebrated.

As an actor, and a pretty highly acclaimed actor, most people think he should have been nominated for his role as doc Holliday. I don't know if you would have beaten Tommy Lee Jones, But still watching him reflect on the greatness of his experiences It's just amazing. I'm drinking a glass of wine now, so toast to you Val Kilmer
