It looks like a lot of you are jumping on the bandwagon just because of a lawsuit. But hmmmm... seems I have seen NO ONE mention Marvin Gaye BEFORE the lawsuit.

Post a link to your post if you did, or it didn't happen. :smh:

You can choose to believe what you want.

For a lot of us, Marvin's song is a classic party song we've loved for years. So it didn't take super hearing to know that Robin Thicke garbage sounds like "Got To Give It Up". I heard that thievery from the first rip. It's exactly why I refused to ever listen to it again. I called myself doing my part in helping the song to hopefully go away quietly.

Oh well.

Luke released Scarred, Quad City DJ's released The Train, no one was mad at either.

First there was Brown Sugar, then there was Love & Basketball, ok we was a lil mad @ Love and Basketball but life moved on. :D

Whitney Houston sang "I Will Always Love You" which made people say "Dolly who?"

Peeps should just enjoy music for what it is unless they are just blatantly copying the music, and this is not one of those cases.

The Gaye estate should be happy if their family member's song was used for inspiration and call it a day. The lawsuit wouldn't be necessary if they didn't yap about it.

Robin released a body of work that *may* have taken influence from someone elses. Apple vs Microsoft, Pepsi vs Coke. Unless it is actually infringing, who really cares? It's good music and I accept it as such.

As someone before me mentioned, it was likely so that the Robin Thicke crew could file their lawsuit before the Gaye family filed theirs. An audacious move, considering they were the ones "borrowing". The Gaye family shouldn't "be happy" about shit. They should be exactly as they are...feeling pissed that the legacy of Marvin Gaye's artistry is being pimped sideways.

Ain't no *may* to it. What it IS lies somewhere in the area between "strongly influenced by" and cloning.

Corporations imitating their competition's ideas and this situation are apples and oranges. Who really cares? Among others, the Gaye family cares.

Probably trying to beat them to the punch but one was before the other so let him bring on the case and it more than likely will end in the Gayes favor.

I hope.I never liked Thick anyways.

Interesting.

This song has been hot for a couple months now but I'm only just seeing people say it reminds them of Gaye's song (I don't like either one, for the record).

If the Gaye family can prove his jacked the song, they'll win but they have to prove it. Just having some similar beats isn't going to be enough.

wrong, just listen to the two songs and you can hear where thicke samples marvins version.

I knew thicke song wasn't original at all but I wasn't thinking marvin,I was thinking much further back because the lyrics of the song.

Thicke should have checked before or his people, someone has fucked up and now they will have to pay.

I bet you that Thicke loses the case...

Exactly. I bet a majority of people my age 40 and over were saying what I was saying....damn that fucking song sounds familiar.

Dolly Parton got paid for people using the song she WROTE. In fact read this:

Around the time the song reached number one on the country charts, Elvis Presley indicated that he wanted to cover the song. Parton was interested until Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, told her that it was standard procedure for the songwriter to sign over half of the publishing rights to any song Elvis recorded.[13] Parton refused, and that decision is credited with helping to make her many millions of dollars in royalties from the song over the years. After being re-released in 1982, the track once again peaked at number one on Hot Country Songs, making Parton the first artist ever to earn a number one record twice with the same song.[1] After recording a duet with Vince Gill in 1995, "I Will Always Love You" re-entered the Billboard chart and peaked at number 15.[14]

Dolly Parton was never stupid and she's seen that one song alone make her millions. You really think she just let Whitney Houston sing it??

Lawsuit or no lawsuit, that shit is banging and I'm still knocking that shit in my car! Whatever happens in the lawsuit happens, Gaye's family does deserve some change from the sampling, but I definitely don't have a gripe with Thicke striking first... business is business... And I will STILL cop his shit going forward if it's nice... All due respect, but Marvin is gone, and his family ain't doing shit for me so I'm not disconnecting from music I like over some bullshit...
