Most of the content of the message is cool. The messenger, however is not.

So to fix illiteracy, we need to get rid of the Federal Department of Education and let individual states determine their own guidelines for education and distribute state funds towards education as they see fit.....................?!!

Are you out of your fucking mind?!

Let states like Texas, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama control education for "urban" school districts vs white?!! Yeah ok.....

As far as black "leaders' being assassinated,..... those deaths were celebrated by people most aligned with her current party......

Are Democrats bad in ways, YES......YES!!

But I believe in my whole fucking heart, 10 toes down, Republicans and their Project 2025 Agenda are exponentially worse!!

Lol, y'all niggas are on one today. She made some (few to none) good points but the sad truth of that's just not how our government operates and this is the result of decades long efforts of republican think tanks and neoconservative operatives to further the diseducation of the populace. In the end this government exists solely for the benefit of a small percentage of the white population. Any benefits enjoyed by anyone outside of that protected class are merely residual overflow or part of a structural design meant only to undergird the primary policy. With AI and robotics burgeoning what is the use of a proletariat class?

Their loyalty is to corporations, political parties, and self-interest, not the advancement of our people.
Until we wake up and realize that THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US, we will forever be victims of social and economic deprivation and despair.

Vote YOU, not RED or BLUE.

I hate this logic whenever someone criticizes the Democrats. Calling out the Democrats means someone's a Republican or Trump supporter. Most people know the Republicans are racists but to ignore the Democrats bullshit is ridiculous. Democratic cities have gone out their way to ignore black people's problems despite the city being majority black but will cater to the gay and Hispanic population like it's no problem.

This is why I have an issue with the Congressional Coon Caucus. They'll cater to everyone but the people that voted for them.

Over the past 4 years what do you think black voters have been ignored on?

Criminal Justice Reform

• The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act (2021): Passed by the House of Representatives, this bill aimed to address police misconduct, use of excessive force, and racial bias in policing. It proposed banning chokeholds, creating a national police misconduct registry, and reforming qualified immunity for law enforcement. Although the bill did not pass in the Senate, it was a significant part of the Democratic agenda.
• Pardons and Commutations: President Biden has issued pardons and commutations aimed at addressing some of the racial disparities in sentencing, particularly for non-violent drug offenses.

Voting Rights

• John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act: Democrats pushed for this legislation, which sought to restore and strengthen parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that were weakened by the Supreme Court. This act aimed to protect voting rights, particularly in states with histories of racial discrimination.
• For the People Act: Another major voting rights bill that sought to expand voter registration, combat voter suppression, and make Election Day a national holiday. While it faced significant opposition in the Senate, it reflected the Democratic commitment to protecting voting access, which disproportionately affects Black voters.

Education and Student Debt

• Student Loan Forgiveness: The Biden administration has forgiven billions in student loans, with a focus on borrowers who attended for-profit colleges that engaged in deceptive practices. Many Black students are disproportionately burdened by student debt, making this a critical issue for the community.
• Increased Funding for HBCUs: The Biden administration secured historic levels of funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through various relief packages and budget proposals.

Health Care

• Expanding Access to Affordable Care Act (ACA): Democrats worked to expand and strengthen the ACA, which has provided health insurance to millions of Black Americans. The American Rescue Plan also included subsidies that made health insurance more affordable for lower-income individuals and families.
• Addressing Health Disparities: The Biden administration has prioritized addressing racial disparities in health care, particularly through initiatives aimed at reducing maternal mortality rates among Black women.

Economic Equity

• Racial Equity Executive Orders: Early in his administration, President Biden signed executive orders focused on advancing racial equity across federal policies and programs. This included efforts to address disparities in housing, employment, and access to capital for Black-owned businesses.
• Minimum Wage Increase for Federal Contractors: The Biden administration raised the minimum wage for federal contractors to $15 an hour, which disproportionately benefits Black workers.

It's not whether what's she is saying is true (a lot is), the questions is what would the Republicans do about it. School choice is about getting public dollars to pay for suburbia private schools. The problem (as someone who has taught in inner city schools) lies much more on bad parenting / generational chains than the schools.

Bad parenting far outweighs bad teachers.

You beat me to it.

Ex girlfriend taught in APS during the pandemic.

They had them studying nothing all year but the Yellow Fever. Every damn class was yellow fever yellow fever.

Shit was ridiculous. They weren't allowed to fail kids and the kids knew it. All classes were online and they showed up if they wanted to. Some parents cared, many didn't.

I think she was referring to Atlanta Public School System.....In any event here are a couple of links from 2022 ....

She not spot on, but the numbers are still alarming.

37% percent tested proficient in reading.

Which means 63% would be considered illiterate by testing standards. That’s definitely not the same as 92% by any means.

I agree, it’s still alarming, but when making a point like that, a person can’t be saying off the wall percentages like that.

That’s nearly a 30% difference and a lot can be explained in that 30%.

I know a family right now with 5 illiterate kids because they lack home and financial stability.

It always starts with the parents first. That’s the accountability part. Second is what the school can do for them children.
