Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that you found a congregation full of good people who have supported you throughout your life. Let me ask you a question though.
If there were undisputed proof that God did not exist would they still be a congregation of good supportive people? Would you still trust them the same way you have for the last 30 years? Is your pastor still the same kind of man who would drive 600 miles for a friend's father's funeral if he had to take a different kind of job?
I believe that they would still be good people because most human beings are inherently good. Most of us are blessed with empathy and a sense of morality that causes us to treat other people with the same respect and courtesy that we expect ourselves. Even sociopaths understand that jail sucks and life is generally easier when you follow the law.
Church and religion, that's some bullshit, but GOD, (he or she) is real. Yes, he or she is everywhere, believe that. invisible, yeap. Magnificent, yeap. Do I believe in God and his teachings, yes. But the aspect of religion and doing as the preacher says, no.
Ill give whatever is in my heart to give, whether its a few bucks to help keep the lights on in a church or my time/change to some less fortunate person that needs it. Thats also tithing in my book. NOT GIVE A PERCENTAGE of my hard earned money to some Gulfstream flying, 2+ homes owning, lil boy liking pastor.
You have to know the difference and stay away from these corrupt megapreachers after their own wants, bible thumpers/atheists who wanna shove their own beliefs down your throat and believe in your own beliefs that you think is right. Reading some of these horror stories about how these preachers act about $ would make anybody not wanna go to church. But there is no explanation about how we all as living beings came about... how the universe was formed, etc.
So I stick to my own beliefs on that one.
As for atheist, he or she might not should be atheist, because if you do the energy exercise of the things I mentioned above, you will understand that you did not create yourself, or developed out of nothing. There is a designer. Further, God talking to you is not apart of the paradigm, but you will become more connected to the all, which is what this whole thing is about. You will begin to understand that all of us are connected. Insects, Animals, Humans, the multiverse. Without this connection, we can only say we are, but after experiencing the end product of these energy arts, you will know you are connected to what is greater than you. If you chose not to call it GOD, then so be it, but whatever you decided to call it, you must know it designed you.

I meditate regularly so i am very familiar with that "all is one" feeling you describe. I also understand that's it's only a feeling. No different than those feelings of love you might get when a random gives you some good pussy. Acting on either of those feelings can be disastrous because they aren't based on anything real.
Don't get me wrong. It's objectively true that all living creatures have life in common. It's also obvious that the combined life force of every living creature in the universe is more powerful than any single individual's. You don't need to "feel" anything to know that though.
As for a creator, let's assume you're right and we were all designed by a more powerful being. Does that alone mean we should appoint him as our God? If we do then how do we know his will? Through feelings?
So take it one step further and assume that this God communicates through feelings. A couple weeks ago a driver changed lanes without looking and almost ran me off the road. I was so mad I felt like ramming his car. Was that God telling me to do it? Did I displease my creator by not intentionally damaging this idiot's vehicle?
If that's wasn't God's will then how does one differentiate between these feelings and the ones God actually wants you to follow?

When my Grandmother and God Mother were alive I went church faithfully but things were different back than the pastor didn't beg for money you gave what you could, the Pastor came to your house if a family member was sick or needed help. There were programs for the kids all year round to keep the kids off the streets. When I joined the military and moved I found out the dirty world of televangelist and the begging ass pastor who only want money. My Pastor back home held it down till he passed away at the age of 97 it all feel apart then and a new pastor stepped in church shut down about 3 months later.
