Why Do So Many Black Superheroes Have Electricity Powers?

Its not her whole power set but It's the major part of her theme. Her costumes almost always include lightning bolts. She even wears lightning bolt ear rings.
( when they aren't drawing her naked )

Blackbolt dresses in black. Its a major theme in his outfit. His powers are not however based on Blackness.

Storm could wear water drops...it doesn't change anything I stated. Your post doesn't refute anything i stated either.

Storm cannot generate electricity. It does not come from her being nor is it part of her physiology. I explained how she blows shit up and your post about atmospheric pressure is the same explanation.

Storm can DIRECT LIGHTNING based on the science already explained. But she CANNOT CONTROL ELECTRICITY. She can't draw electricity from a battery, a power station or any other place it lies. She can't control electronics, hell she can't even make static cling...her powers are weather in nature, not electrical. If it's not specifically lightning Storm can't fuck with it.

Lightning is a form of electricity just like fog, sleet, hail and rain are forms of water. She doesnt generate water either, she manipulates what's already present or marshals it from elsewhere. She can't make the ocean tsunami a mafugga or turn it into swords cause that's not in her skills set. I bet you aren't putting her on a water based power list like Aqualad though are you?

She can manipulate wind, but that doesn't mean she has air powers.

She has WEATHER powers. Lightning (not electricity) is a bullet in her gun...it AIN'T the gun.

"She can modify the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity and moisture (at a molecular level), generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena, and has demonstrated excellent control over atmospheric pressure".

Dude; the quote that I used came directly from THE MARVEL DATABASE itself and Wikipedia. They're stating clearly and unequivocally that she generates lightning.

And newsflash: Lightning IS electricity.
- Storm can generate lightning.
- Storm can control lightning.
- Hence, Storm can both generate AND control lightning/electricity.

I don't understand why you refuse to accept this.
She's only been doing this for over 40 years in comic books....:dunno:

I think I could be wrong what you aren't getting is Storm is MORE than that.

It's "natural"

And those other heroes it's either artificial or their SOLE power no pun intended

Storm is lightning

I don't agree that lightning and electricity are interchangeable like that.

It's the electric company not lightning company.

Even in the case of static, vulcan/black lightning etc...it's more CREATED and they can just manipulate that ONE thing.

Lightning in Storm is attached to so much more clouds thunder clouds...

I have never seen Storm turn on a computer with her powers like Static and Black Lightning.

I'm not saying she couldn't

but Storm is a God a force of nature...

Don't limit her.

Yeah it's in her bag but it's so much more.

Yeah, but when you're struck by lightning, you're being electrocuted. (As well as being burned):scared:

And I never said that Storm's power is SOLELY based on electricity.
As you can clearly see in all of my previous posts on this subject, I have said time and again that her ability to generate, manifest and control lightning/electricity is only a PART of her abilities.
I never limited Storm or her abilities, nor do I seek to do so. How you (or others) personally choose to view the character is your business. I'm not trying to force anyone to see her MY way.

- If you view her as a force of nature. (So be it).
- If you view her as a goddess. (That's cool).
- If you view her as an Omega level Mutant. (I'm down with that).

But please; let's not act like she doesn't regularly & effectively utilize electricity/lightning in her long list of skills and abilities as the article states.
That's all I'm saying....:dunno:

Oh OK...we agree

(honestly I didn't read all your previous posts so I wasn't fair to you)

we just saying (i think) by the writer adding Storm on this list UNNECESSARILY it muddies the point. Cause we could name a ton of heroes who have some sort of electric power and then the Black stereotype thing just doesn't work as well.

11 Black Superheroes That Use Electricity
1/22/2014 06:00:00 PM 8 comments

Black Lightning, Source: IGN
When it comes to black superheroes, electricity goes a long way. Quite a few of them have electrical powers. Possibly it's because of one of the major black heroes, Black Lightning. It's also a good generic power, like super-strength and flight. Here's a rundown of eleven superheroes of color who send sparks flying.

1. Black Lightning

Black Lightning is one of the first major African American superheroes to appear in DC Comics. He also set the trend of black electrical heroes. He had the power to generate electricity and shoot lightning bolts. His powers originally came from a belt, but this was later retconned to make him a metahuman.

2. Black Vulcan

Black Vulcan first appeared on the Super Friends TV show instead of the comics. He was created to replace Black Lightning, because of a rights dispute with BL's creator, Tony Isabella. Vulcan's powers differed from Lightning in that he could wrap people up with his lightning bolts instead of electrocute them. He also could turn himself into pure energy.

3. Static

Static was created for the DC imprint, Milestone, and later became part of the DC comics universe. After being doused with a radioactive chemical by police, Static gained the power to create electric shocks and move metal objects. With his witty comments and science background, he was the black Spiderman. At least, he was until the actual black Spiderman.

4. Soul Power

When Static got an animated series called Static Shock, it also introduced this new electrically charged hero. Soul Power was a funky seventies hero whose powers worked much like Static's. But Soul Power is unique because of his groovy victory dance.

5. Juice

In Justice League Unlimited, the League encountered a group of genetically engineered superheroes called the Ultimen. The Ultimen had analogues of all the original characters created for the Super Friends, including Black Vulcan. So if you're keeping score, Black Lightning led to Black Vulcan, who led to Juice. Everybody got that?

6. Lightning

When Black Lightning has two daughters, the kids inherit superpowers. After graduation from school, the daughters become Thunder and Lightning. Lightning has similar powers as her father, using electricity. The circle continues...

7. Storm

Storm is a mutant member of the X-Men with the power to control the weather. One of her favorite uses of her power is to summon bolts of lightning. Electricity, always the electricity.

8. Ultimate Spider-Man

When Miles Morales took on the mantle of Ultimate Spiderman after the death of Peter Parker, he also gained new abilities. One ability is what he calls his "venom strike," an electric shock that can stun or incapacitate his enemies. It goes well with his spider-sense, both powers real spiders don't have.

9. Volt

Boom Comics' series Irredeemable had a superhero who could throw electricity. In one comic, Volt complained about being the stereotypical "black man with electric powers." In some ways, that made him a parody of Black Lightning and Static, but also his own.

10. Shango The Thunderer

Marvel has Thor, the god of thunder. DC has Shango. The ancient African people worshiped a group of beings as gods, and their god of thunder was Shango. Firestorm has tangled with him a number of times, and Shango always breaks out the lightning.

11. Thunder Fall

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a group of super-powered beings called the Kingdom led a revolution before disappearing. One of them was known as Thunder Fall. He could fire electrical blasts from his hands. That, and even teaming up with Batwing, wasn't enough to save him.

Which is your favorite? What other superheroes use electricity?

So basically it's a DC problem? Just looks like a lack of creativity

I can't decide one way or another but I lean toward listing Storm.
To add to the debate where buddy boy came out with "Storm is an elemental" and I
hate to bring up Greek shit, but this is close to the same thing:

Zeus. He was a leader of their gods.
Zeus was know for his lightning powers. If he didn't have that, would people
be afraid of him? Just him alone, not help from other gods under him...

first off, that wiki page is FAN edited, not story based. i can edit that page at will.

second, yeah lightning is electricity, but electricity aint always lightning. electricity powers are based on the nature of electricity, not the characteristics of lightning.

for 40 years she aint once jumped into a wall outlet. she aint charged up by grabbing live wires. she aint controlled machines. she aint been knocked out by a bucket of water, or had her powers discharged by getting hit with charged power rods. her powers ARE NOT electricity based.

her powers are elemental.

why YOU dont know the difference is EASY to understand.

youre being obstinate.

Let me help you guys out a little bit.

Storm can not generate electricity/lightning. This is one of the major differences between her & Thor. What she does is manipulate the environment (using psychokinesis, if you're wondering) around her to emulate various weather patterns (lightning, snow, rain, etc.). That is how her power works. She is not like Black Lightning, who ACTUALLY generates electricity & can manipulate his physical form into "coherent" electrons to do things like instantaneous transportation or flight.

Static (Shock) is also being criminally understated as well. While he can use lightning/electricity, what Static's powers actually are are complete control of the entire electromagnetic spectrum (this is why he can fly around on a manhole cover). That puts him on par, power-wise, with someone like Magneto or Dr. Polaris. Not Electro (who could be at that level if he tried) or the Eel. Matter of fact, the best comparison for Static in the DCU is Superman Blue.

And y'all complaining about black superheroes having electrical powers...how about how many black heroes are connected to animals usually considered beasts, pests or vermin. That would get my goat more than this electricity thing, where you got two heroes that shouldn't even be there, one deity of the actual ability & three obvious knock-offs of Black Lightning.
