Quentin Tarantino’s “Star Trek” is developing fast at Paramount. Deadline reported earlier this week that Tarantino had successfully pitched an idea for a new “Trek” film to producer J.J. Abrams and Paramount, and now it has been revealed that both parties have agreed to Tarantino’s request that the movie be rated R.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Star Trek’: Why We’re Divided on Reports That He Could Tackle a Blockbuster
According to new report from Deadline, Tarantino met “for hours” with writers Mark L. Smith, Lindsey Beer, and Drew Pearce to kick around ideas. One of the three writers will be chosen to craft the screenplay, which Tarantino intends on directing. The frontrunner is reportedly Smith, who has R-rated experience having written “The Revenant.” The three previous “Star Trek” films directed by Abrams and Justin Lin have been rated PG-13.

The “Star Trek” film is currently Tarantino’s second high profile project in development. He recently announced he’ll be making his ninth feature with Sony after leaving The Weinstein Company following the sexual harassment and abuse allegations made against Harvey Weinstein. Tarantino’s new film will be set in 1969 and will have something to do with the Manson family murders. The film already has a August 9, 2019 release date.

Paramount is expected to confirm the “Star Trek” writer as soon as possible. The space adventure will be written while Tarantino is in production on his new movie this spring.

If done right this movie could be the Star Trek equivalent of the X-Men's Logan. A one off that explores its characters in a way that delves deeper in character without sacrificing canon or the franchise.
FYI, Star Trek Discovery has used curse words such as Fuck, so it has to be something more substantive for the R rating to meaning anything or for it to matter. Also I don't want to hear one use of the word ****** or Nigga - in this movie. Other than that looking forward to Tarantino's vision that way I appreciated JJ Abrams.

Was going to say it. They need to keep this fuck away from Star Trek!

When you hear the comments in this thread. It makes you realize how far Star Trek has fallen from Roddenberry’s original intent and vision of the future. It further makes you realize how many people honestly have no idea what Star Trek is supposed to be about and how it’s universe is far different from Battle Star Galactica or Star Wars or some other space opera.

Cussing? Nudity and sex? Etc

Unfortunately, we’re really at a time in Hollywood we’re making $$$$ has become more important than the art and philosophy of that genre.

Not everything is designed to make 1 billion dollars. Rarely, will the most important things come close to that kind of monetary compensation. Their value is and has always been intrinsic. Something that goes far beyond the capital gains.

Too much of our entertainment is “mindless” very little thinking or thought required. It permeates throughout our society and it’s crippling.

Why not let Tyler Perry to direct "Wrath of Madea?" They are choking the life out of one of my favorite tv shows.

What would be REALLY cool is if the movie centered around the alternate universe Enterprise from the TOS episode "Mirror Mirror". That way Tarantino could keep his style and stay faithful to the Trek universe.

A few other predictions

Robert Forster, who played Captain Dan Holland in the original Black Hole, will come back as an admiral.

The Black Hole will also be the name of a space shuttle flow by Samuel L Jackson's character

The movie will be shot in a grindhouse style similar to Death Proof

For some reason Uhura will walk around barefoot

Tarantino will have a cameo as a Ferengi. No makeup needed

Truth be told both the original Star Trek and the next generation has plenty of episodes of implied sex. I mean Kirk had an out of wedlock kid, and was known for bedding anything that looked female (Iman in Star Trek 6,The Undiscovered Country) And how many times did Riker come back from his Risa trips smiling like a brother who just came back from Brazil?

Cool, now compared those to the rest of the series episodes and you'll find they are a microcosm of what the episodes were usually about. Especially for TNG, I'm actually surprised you even attempted the point.
