My parents were lifetime friends of the mom & dad dating back nearly 50 years. Family is really private and guarded though, so they never got a chance to say goodbye to him (even from afar).
The family, dad included, got COVID back in May or early-June, so that certainly didn't help him physically while also compromised.
Their 2 kids locally have their own mental health issues to contend with, and their other child has been living abroad in Korea teaching English for the better part of the past decade. He was to fly home recently to grieve with the family, but can't as he too has COVID.
Everyone's vaxxed and boosted. Mom is close to 70. Kids are all early-30s or so.

We already know that the government and even doctors employed by the government downplayed and misdirected several key pieces of information early in the pandemic. They did it because they felt that trying to talk sense to a semi-ignorant public would not work. I'm not saying I agree with them, but seeing how stupid some of the responses have been during the pandemic, I understand on a level.
Whether I believe or don't believe them then or now, the facts and the science lead to specific paths that aren't the ones you're trying to go down. You're letting a few drops of doubt color the wave of information being put in front of you. But hey, you do you.
