One of the idiots on here posted the blog he is alluding to. I actually watch soccer so of course they didn't respond when I pointed out that the people on the list weren't dead. :smh::lol:

Nah, this is a dangerous narrative. Vaccines offer protection, but not complete immunization. Vaccinated folks are way safer, but are not out of the woods when it comes to exposure. And we are still just one bad variant away from vaccines (or even naturally built immunity) meaning very little. In which case, the general lack of concern for distancing and mask wearing will come back to bite people.

People are still being denied medical service, and hospitals are taxed beyond capacity from dealing with infected people. Staff are pushed beyond their limits, and we're still losing medical professionals to stress and in some cases, COVID.

"Endemic" is about to become the new "herd immunity": a word that people use to try and comfort or justify behavior without really understanding what it really is.

Other countries have a political structure that allows the unvaccinated to be targeted to a degree that isn't possible here. (fines, restrictions etc.) I predict highly vaccinated major cities /suburbs will be OK going forward but I don't see how this cycle ever ends for the rest of the country. I want us to pivot and start trying to vaccinate low income countries instead of trying to reason with the idiots here.

I can agree on this. We might as well get the goods to the people that need them and don't have access, versus those that have access and refuse to use the resources.

Florida shuts down all monoclonal antibody treatment sites after FDA decision to limit use of certain treatments not proven effective against Omicron

(CNN)Florida is closing its monoclonal antibody treatment sites, health officials announced late Monday, citing the US Food and Drug Administration's decision to limit the use of certain versions of the treatments that were found less effective against the now-dominant Omicron variant of coronavirus.
"Unfortunately, as a result of this abrupt decision made by the federal government, all monoclonal antibody state sites will be closed until further notice," the Florida Department of Health said in a statement.
More than 2,000 appointments for the treatment were canceled in the state on Tuesday alone, according to a statement from Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Earlier Monday, the FDA said it was revising the authorizations for monoclonal antibody treatments made by Eli Lilly (bamlanivimab and etesevimab, administered together) and Regeneron (REGEN-COV, or casirivimab and imdevimab), because data showed they are "highly unlikely to be active against the omicron variant."

Omicron accounted for more than 99% of Covid-19 cases in the US as of January 15, the FDA said, noting restricting the authorization for treatments that aren't effective against the variant "avoids exposing patients to side effects ... which can be potentially serious."
Some people who've received monoclonal antibody treatment reported rashes, diarrhea, nausea and dizziness after treatment, according to the National Institutes of Health. A small percentage of patients had severe allergic reactions.

The FDA's announcement came after senior health officials in the Biden administration called the offices of governors and state health officials earlier this month, urging them against using these treatments with Omicron, a source familiar with the calls said.
DeSantis has made monoclonal antibodies a cornerstone of his response to surges of coronavirus cases, often pushing the treatment more vigorously than vaccines.

A man enters the Regeneron Clinic at a monoclonal antibody treatment site in Pembroke Pines, Florida, on August 19, 2021.

Last summer, he introduced new clinics where individuals could receive the treatment at the onset of symptoms or exposure to someone with Covid-19.
Earlier this month, amid a record-breaking surge of Covid-19 cases, DeSantis assailed the Biden administration for pausing shipments of the monoclonal antibodies, and has pushed for the treatment to remain widely available.

On January 7, DeSantis said he'd secured 15,000 doses of Regeneron's antibody treatment for the state, despite the pharmaceutical company saying in December its REGEN-COV antibodies "have diminished potency against Omicron."
DeSantis slammed the FDA's announcement in a statement Monday, saying the Biden administration "has forced trained medical professionals to choose between treating their patients or breaking the law."
GlaxoSmithKline's monoclonal antibody, sotrovimab, is the only version of the treatment that appears to work against Omicron, the FDA said last month.
At the time, the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response and the FDA paused allocations of the Eli Lilly and Regeneron monoclonal antibodies, but said 300,000 additional doses of sotrovimab would be made available in January.

Elton John postpones Dallas concerts after testing positive for Covid-19

Elton John has tested positive for Covid-19 and is postponing two performance dates this week.

(CNN)
Elton John's concerts at American Airlines Center in Dallas have been postponed after the singer tested positive for Covid-19, according to a statement from the arena.
The venue announced the already long-delayed "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour would not run this Tuesday and Wednesday.
"It is with great regret that the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour dates in Dallas set for Tuesday, January 25 and Wednesday, January 26 must be postponed due to Elton recently testing positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, Elton is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is experiencing only mild symptoms. Fans should hold on to their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled dates to be announced soon. Elton and the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour look forward to returning to the stage shortly," the venue wrote in a statement.
The singer had just returned to performing after a nearly two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The tour was also delayed last year as he underwent hip surgery.
John had announced tour dates in June 2021, saying at the time: "The shows that I announce today will be my final tour dates ever in North America and Europe. I'm going to go out in the biggest possible way, performing at my very best, with the most spectacular production I've ever had, playing in places that have meant so much to me throughout my career."
It's not yet clear if the tour, scheduled to stop in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Oklahoma City on Saturday and Sunday, will go forward or be postponed.

Maybe,I'm wrong but Kareem seems like the only current or former athlete that seems to be outspoken against these stupid ass athletes that's against vaccination and mask mandation.

For some reason virtually all of the current players are focused on the vaccine as a personal choice.

For former players, Charles Barkley has been very critical of Kyrie not getting the vaccine.

Also, Detlef Schrempf called out Stockton.

But unfortunately, Kareem is basically the only one being consistently vocal about vaccines.

I'm tired of people saying they're tired of COVID and wants to know when the pandemic ends.Folks want to act like there's a timetable when a pandemic ends. Until, more people get vaccinated, wear a mask, social distance and etc this will continue on. This is the main reason, why this pandemic haven't slowed down because people are so eager to get back to "normal" instead of trying to slow the spread down.

People act like these virologists, epidemiologists and etc are holding their lives hostage. The sad part, most of these people that's complaining will go back to their miserable lives.

Did he not look in the mirror while getting dressed??? What kind of pant/jacket combo is that?

So basically, he wants to exhaust a treatment that is effective on some previous cases of COVID (and might be effective against future variants) treating a variant that it's not effective against.

A dozen things he could be doing, and this is the fight that he picks. Literally the worst take on something clearly denoted by the science.

It's amazing to me how these politicians aren't just dumb, they're dumb to the point of being self-destructive.

He's smart enough to know who's making money off of those treatments.

He isn't dumb he just knows his continued political success is 100% dependent on the dumb vote. He is Yale/HLS and saw what happened to JEB! and even Rubio when they tried to run more moderate GOP style campaigns. Him and Cotton actually really scare me because they are of course evil but, unlike Trump, very capable of fully implementing a fucked up agenda. :smh:

I started looking at Festinger again recently and his research of doomsday cults is really relevant I think:

A man with a conviction is a hard man to change. Tell him you disagree and he turns away. Show him facts or figures and he questions your sources. Appeal to logic and he fails to see your point.

We have all experienced the futility of trying to change a strong conviction, especially if the convinced person has some investment in his belief. We are familiar with the variety of ingenious defenses with which people protect their convictions, managing to keep them unscathed through the most devastating attacks.
But man’s resourcefulness goes beyond simply protecting a belief. Suppose an individual believes something with his whole heart; suppose further that he has a commitment to this belief, that he has taken irrevocable actions because of it; finally, suppose that he is presented with evidence, unequivocal and undeniable evidence, that his belief is wrong: what will happen? The individual will frequently emerge, not only unshaken, but even more convinced of the truth of his beliefs than ever before. Indeed, he may even show a new fervor about convincing and converting other people to his view.

In August, my Brazilian friend Lucas Fontainha, a 27-year-old veterinarian, summed up this culture in one tweet: “Fortunately Brazilians love vaccines, they fight for vaccines, they throw vaccine festivals, they kiss all the babies in the line waiting for vaccines, they camp overnight at the clinic to get a vaccine … even the anti-vaccination Brazilians vaccinate in secret. I love this.”

Brazil’s strong vaccination culture will likely make it one of the most vaccinated countries in the world by the end of the year. But that culture wasn’t created overnight — it took decades of building residents’ trust and forging community relationships and, of course, the creation of a universal health care system. Perhaps the U.S. could learn a thing or two.
