This seems to go on sale about once a month. Any reason to jump on it now rather than wait?
Also, will these be needed on the new Xbox. Is the included hard drive space not enough?
Typically I'll see seagates on sale but I don't see 5tbs WD for 99 unless it's Black friday.
They will work on your current xbox and the new one... but
This is not designed for Xbox Series X games ... You will still need the external SSD drive for that..
But you can store Series X games on this hard drive and transfer them to the internal SSD drive to play them.... So basically this gives you additional space.

Man, my Xbox One takes forever with Monster Hunter World. They need to do a comparison with Borderlands 3.
This is cute and all but the tiny bit of extra work on PS5 is going to save folks money in the long run. Also since the case just pops off with no tools I'd imagine sony will get a ton of custom cases.
