Many have to factor in the age of the person watching the comedy, it's a different time period now.

Throwing Eddie Murphy or Richard Pryor on now to a person who's never heard them won't make the same impression as those who were alive when it was released.
The best thing about raw is you can still watch the jokes of yesterday and it still has merit for today...his jokes were timeless... The mc Donald skit, the fucking vs love skit, white people feeling themselves after watching certain movies aka the Rocky skit

I want to commission a focus group of young people who have never seen Raw to test this theory.

I think Life is one of the best movies ever and I love some of the old stuff like Trading Places and Coming to America. I'm an Eddie fan. I entered with high hopes and expectations. But it just didn't do it for me.

Well you needn't worry because not many, if any, will agree with you. I had thought maybe one or two of your friends might, but that presupposes that an arrogant pseudo know-it all like you would have any friends, which I seriously doubt. Sycophants maybe, friends? nah!

I wish I had sycophants.

Have a good day, man.

Raw is 1 of my go to when entertaining chicks.. U'll be surprised how many broads 30 and under have never seen it... Throw some of them skits on and hitches be die laughing... What's old to you is new to somebody else... Sometimes you got to stick with the classics... Hell my older bro took a page out of my book and would show his ex wife classics like 3 o clock high and she would be die laughing... Stick with the classics... 80's/90's classic material... Even got this 26 yr Spanish chick watching karate kid for the first time juss so she could start watching cobrakai

Man "Raw" is one of my all time favorites...i've always liked it way more than delirious. His storytelling, timing etc was more advanced..the fag police, Dexter st jock, wops after watching rocky. Etc
I still watch that shit

Good thread concept...i gotta think about the best specials ive seen...i know "Raw" is up there on my mount rushmore for sure, probably "Elephant in the room" as well

so cac comedy over Bernie Mac n Kevin Hart ...

even wanda sykes jus dropped some shit that was funny as fuck this weekend...

i cant relate to cac humor...jus sayin ...

but again ur entitled 2 ur own .....:rolleyes2:

and age i think has shit to do with it...u ever heard of youtube n a million other ways to c these classics...

thats why rap music suck today ....

let me go post some retro porn ...got me feeling all nostalgic now....

Janet Jacme , Heather Hunter...etc...:D

Comedy’s subjective, some things are funny and some things aren’t to others. I had a friend who recommended the Wanda Sykes standup, she said it had her “Dying”. I watched over the weekend, I checked maybe once. It was funny to you and her but not me.

But this isn’t about Wanda.

I can’t relate to cac humor but if something’s funny it’s funny.

Also rap music sucks today to “You”, millions of other people are loving it.

Bottom line, asking someone today to watch old comedy from the 70’s and 80’s is not fair because they might not “Get it”.

And Heather Hunter was always overrated to me. :dunno:

Comedy's definitely interesting - especially when it comes to recommendations to or from friends, family, coworkers, etc. Whether it's TV shows, movies, stand-up specials ... always good to have a general frame of reference for what people are into. It's funny when stuff contrasts wildly differently too. You'll see something and think it's great - then you'll ask others' opinions and they'll think it was hot garbage, and vice-versa. What I find I do now is give similar comparisons so they'll know what to expect. Explain to them if it's a slow build or not, or where I thought something was strongest or weakest. Same goes for TV series too. I'm glad many shows are now 8 - 13 episodes, instead of the standard 20 - 24 that so many were known for on the major networks of yesterday. It's easier to get into a show and see if something is for you (or not), knowing you don't have too many left to complete the 1st season. Not as much of a time investment or commitment to see it through.
