FYI, Atlas and Johnson won the WWF tag team titles in 1983...not 1977. Vince Sr. wasn't having that...
Great thread. I would have to go with J.Y.D. Loved watching him as a kid. My co- Worker knew Ernie the Cat too. Use to watch him when he wrestled down in Georgia. Met him a few times and said he was cool as hell. Didn't he play with the K.C. Chiefs too? Tripple bitch post for all the great work put into this thread too.
Rikishi is Samoan (used to be one of the Headshrinkers/Samoan Swat Team, best tag team name ever). Not Rock's actual cousin. The two families are very close but not actually blood.
The biggest Black star ever is clearly The Rock but the best ever in the ring is Booker T. While his WWF career was trash and his drug problem got really bad in that time, JYD was the king of New Orleans when he was in Mid South. So much so that when he left, New Orleans never turned out for Mid South the same even with Dusty Rhodes and others on the cards.
Ron Simmons is the first Black man to ever win a nationally recognized World title. Bobo was champion for a much smaller company so Ron really broke that barrier.

Junkyard Dog
The late great Junkyard Dog was one of the most purest and unorthodox wrestlers in modern time. During the 80's he was regarded as one of the most popular wrestlers in the WWE. He had great chemistry with crowd and always knew how to hype up an event.
JYD was noted for his incredible strength as well as his brutish nature. He was able to body slam wrestlers such as Kamala, One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy with great ease and perfection.
My personal pick is the JunkYard Dog. Truly a legendary wrestler.
