I just watched the first 5 episodes of the last of us

Ooooooo that is some quality right there.

Superman and Lois
It's nice to see that it seems there were no real budget cuts to this series despite the major shake ups at the CW/WB/Discovery and whoever else is involved.
Some interesting doors have been opened and I can't wait to see what's inside as the new season plays out

The Mandalorian
Another exciting episode. I liked the balance of heavy action and heavy drama.
Some interesting turns for sure as the seeds are planted for what was to come in the last 3 Skywalker based Star Wars films. Oh and Those Damn travel biscuits SMH !!

The Flash
And we have the wacky sidekick....annoying character guest star episode ....zzz..snore..bore
Ok i did laugh when something reminded me of the old Spider Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon

Finished 4 of the 6 episodes for The Night Manager

Gonna check out the Your Honor series finale (season 2). See how they wrapped it all up ... gonna check it out later this coming week.

Have seen half of the Poker Face season 1 finale. The season was hit and miss at times. Some episodes better than others ... but I'm liking this finale so far.

Gonna start Ted Lasso and Lucky Hank this coming week.

I just watched Undone after finishing Bojack Horseman since it is from the same creator.

Bojack has the best ending I’ve ever seen and a more interesting plot, but some of the wackiness (Todd) can be off putting. It’s a show that I could have easily given up on early but once you get through two seasons you should be hooked.

Undone is more consistent and easier to get through. 16 episodes over two seasons, roughly 25 minutes each. Amazing story. Both masterpieces in their own way. I give the edge to Bojack but could easily see why someone would prefer Undone.

@Helico-pterFunk

I wonder as we are still figuring out streaming...

And ESPECIALLY with the writer and potential directors strike looming.

Will the HBO model of big breaks between seasons still be viable?

Will they finally listen to us and try to just film 16 episodes and release 8 episode seasons knowing they always have a season in their pocket?

That's a good point, man.

Film extra / ahead so that you've got something in your back pocket. Even if it means doing a split season or mid-season break. Or a slightly shorter, more condensed season like some shows were doing with 7 - 8 episodes during the pandemic (when they were typically known for 10).

I was glad to hear when Hader and company did that for seasons 3 / 4 of Barry (8 episode seasons). Scripts for 3 and 4 written by early-2021 ... with season 3 being filmed Aug. 2021 and season 4 in June 2022.

I watched Bojack because I know a couple of people who said it is the best show they've ever seen. Rolling Stone had it ranked as the best Netflix show ever. Even through 5 seasons, I'd have said it was very good but not at that level. After season 6, I thought it might be the best show I've ever seen. With some distance from it, it's hard to go that far because I don't like irrelevant wackiness and had trouble paying attention to a lot of B plots-- If you saw The Good Place, it's the same issue I had with Jason but the Bojack version, Todd, gets more time than Jason did. Despite that, it is a minimum 9 out of 10 overall IMO.

I'd recommend starting with Undone because there are no bad episodes and you should be locked in after the second episode. I'm sure you'll be ready to hop right into Bojack after you finish it and seeing the brilliance of that show should be enough to convince you to ride through the first season of Bojack, which is kind of meh until that season's penultimate episode.

If you watch either, let us know what you think!

“Yes, the one indisputable Netflix masterpiece is an animated dramedy about a depressed horse (Will Arnett) who once starred in a bad Nineties family sitcom and now contents himself with abusing both drugs and the trust of anyone who cares about him.”

SWARM

Donald Glovers Swarm is part parody,a reflection of ultra obsessed fans and highly entertaining.
A lot of great nods to the music industry and the huge following Beyonce has gained over the years.
One of the things that makes it so watchable is the character Dre (ANOTHER GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM Dominique Fishback) as she follows her obsession singer Ni'Jah across the United States by any means necessary. I didn't know what she was going to do next, and who she was going to cross paths with. I also think Billie Eilish did well in her first acting job.
Some of it is over the top, and I had to suspend disbelief at times but Glover wisely infuses some of the same rhythm and surreal tones as he did with the series Atlanta.

Carnival Row

I'm sorry I kept putting this show on the back burner because it's very good I'm 2 episodes in and it's filled with a lot of interesting characters and story threads.
I think Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne have great chemistry and the SFX work is very good.

Yeah I gotta watch Carnival Riw eventually. I know it's over now but I am very curious about this series

Enjoying the season thus far. The most recent 5th episode (nursing home-focused) was one of my faves.

I like Poker Face but it is uneven. The bbq episode was really stretching the logic and wasn't as much fun. She can get kinda irritating quick. But overall i enjoyed it. And wouldn't mind a second season

Just checked out the finale yesterday. Like you said, the episodes are uneven. Some notably stronger than others. Some of the cameo guests need more screen time. I liked the reality check with the family member in the season finale. That shit felt real. I hope there is more of that in s2. The family member told no lies and spoke from the heart.

Ok I'm up to episode 5 I'm going to try to finish it this week.

I currently watching the really bad Gotham knights

*cue @ViCiouS laughter*

I’ve been seeing the tv ads for Gotham Knights.

Enjoyed that nursing home ep on Poker Face.

2nd half of the season didn’t have enough of Lyonne. Did enjoy the JG Levitt episode though. There’s more of Lyonne in the finale.

Your Honor

season finale several twists and turns i didnt see coming even though one didnt make much sense but i will chalk it up to a characters anger overwhelming their logic. Im not sure if there will be a season 3 but i can se a few story threads they can play with if it happens.

The Mandalorian

Another good episode i really enjoyed the flashback even though portions of the episode felt like filler

Mayor of Kingstown

Good intense season finale it seems like they tied up a lot of loose ends just in case they are not renewed but a season 3 will likely be delayed anyway due to Renners injuries. I can see them working around one thread they tied though

Enjoyed that season finale for Mayor of Kingstown too. That scene by the train crossing was great. It'll be interesting to see if they get a 3rd season. Like you said ... delays in production are a reality given Renner's going to still be recovering for awhile.

From what I understand that's the series finale for Your Honor after 2 seasons. It was only expected to go 1 season as a limited series, but they brought it back for a 2nd. Overall thought the season was pretty solid, though it felt a little too neat and tidy at the end the way the story threads were tied up.

1 more episode to go with Godfather of Harlem. Solid season.

Saw the 1st episode (pilot) for Lucky Hank. Enjoyed it.

Good to see The Bear will be back for season 2 in June.

For those who didn't catch season 1 last year ... it was one of the best-reviewed shows of the year. It has a hectic, frantic pace at times ... but the show feels lived in as the interactions feel real, and there's enough character development. Season 1's an easy watch at just 8 eps. Wikipedia notes season 2 will be 10 eps.

The Bear is an American comedy-drama television series created by Christopher Storer. It premiered on Hulu on June 23, 2022, and stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Abby Elliott.[1] The series has received critical acclaim, with particular praise for the directing and performances of its cast. In July 2022, it was renewed for a second season,[2] which is set to premiere in June 2023 and consist of 10 episodes.[3]

The sandwich shop interior is copied from the real-life Chicago shop Mr. Beef on Orleans, in River North. The creator was a frequent patron and friends with the son of the owner.[4]

For the first season, the series was nominated for Best Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards.[5][6] White won Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Television Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.[7][8][9] Additionally, Edebiri was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Awards,[5] while the series' ensemble cast was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.[10]

@playahaitian

This episode's a good listen. Played it this morning ... near the start of the show they discuss the uncertainty in the TV industry. Established I.P. versus new ideas ... the potential for the writer's strike, etc. One of the co-hosts (Andy Greenwald) has some experience, as he was the showrunner for the short-lived, 1 season series Briarpatch a few years back. Enjoyed that one when it aired.

Disney is doing that with Daredevil.

Those 18 episodes they filming will be split with 9 each.

Enjoyed the first 2 episodes of the new Ted Lasso season. Checked them out yesterday. Good balance of Ted and the team, and the storylines with Keeley and Nate respectively. The episodes are seemingly a bit longer than in previous seasons.

Also finished the season 1 finale for Shrinking. The series has a nice balance of light-heartedness, and the more serious, or sentimental. It's not a LOL series, but has some amusing writing at times when you know the quirks & opinions of the characters. And with the 10-episode format at approx' 30 mins each ... it's basically like watching 2 movies, so there's enough time to develop the characters and it doesn't feel like it overstays its welcome. Just checked out a few articles about the show, and they've been renewed for season 2, and (writers) have a potential 3-season arc planned out for the show, if they get renewed again at a later point in time.

I think this should be the future of American TV. Something Europe has always done.

A good exec (yeah I know) should be able to see when a show is going to pop or just be quality

Make a 2 or 3 season deal from the jump and lock it in. Especially in sci fi.

Fans are drowning in content. And don't want to commit on a show they know that may be cancelled it ain't nothing new.

But imagine if we KNEW definitely that Last if us was 5 seasons?

Or yellow jackets was 4?

The contracts the scripts the sets the audience are all prepared. Probably be cheaper in the long run too.

You can add a 'bonus" season or mini event whatever if you NEED more episodes.

But I think the trust and commitment would be well received by the industry and the audience.

Well said, Playa.

I think alot of the major networks lost the trust of viewers / fans years back when they would yank shows off the air after a few episodes, or after a relatively good season (which may not have generated the viewership / ad dollars).

Like you said ... why would people feel confident investing their TIME into something which is on eggshells?

One of my favorite breakdowns was from an interview with a female showrunner on the Hollywood Reporter's podcast a year or two back. She basically said when you're pitching your show(s) ... make sure you have MAPPED things out. Explain to the heads that you've got this season charted out ... and what you're thinking of for follow-up seasons. Or where you can derive spinoffs for certain characters, IF it ever gets to that point.

I'm still pretty damn impressed how the Breaking Bad crew did Better Call Saul so well. Taking such a well-received show in BB, and doing a very strong prequel in BCS ... with the last season or two being some of the best TV on the air. It would have been much easier for them to just do some type of sequel. Instead they did a huge backstory for an initial secondary character in a "criminal" lawyer ... and made people care about the likes of "Kim", "Nacho" and more along the way too.
