I watched this one the road last night.

I got a few horror flicks saved and this was on the list. I mainly saved it cuz the trailer looked interesting. This is a movie that spins off from a horror anthology series on Hulu.

Overall, the movie isn’t worth watching. The premise has been done a number of times. The film has a somewhat twist at the end which brought it down.

Watch only if you a hardcore fan of psychological horror and must watch anything that comes out in that genre…otherwise skip it.

Synopsis

After losing his wife to cancer, a father takes his two daughters on a road trip, and they find themselves in the crosshairs of terrifying supernatural entities.

This is a classic SciFi/Thriller I watched last night with one of my sons on tubi. I haven’t seen it since the late 80s on network TV.

The film’s premise is around human cloning. A subject that mysteriously is not being covered in SciFi nowadays or covered by the news media. If you are a true conspiracy theorist, you will enjoy this film.

The film is overloaded with a cast of well known actors from the era from TV and movies.

The film immediately kicks in from the beginning with suspense and holds steady to the last scene. If you suffer from Movie ADHD, this film will not affect your condition.

The film ended for a potential sequel which never was made. I suspect the ending was left for the viewers interpretation of how things will play out in the future.

The film is on a number of free streaming services. tubi has a clean, full screen remastered copy.

Synopsis

Dr. Josef Mengele (Gregory Peck) clones Hitler 95 times, and hopes to raise the resulting boys in Brazil, giving them childhoods identical to Hitler's. His ultimate plan is to create a band of Nazi leaders that can continue where Hitler left off, forming the Fourth Reich. Ezra Lieberman (Laurence Olivier), a Nazi hunter, learns of the plan and is determined to thwart it. When the two meet face-to-face in the home of one of the Hitler clones, it is up to the boy to choose who he will assist.

PRAISE: Powerful, moving ,soul stirring imagery and involving and that's just in the first 20 minutes of this story about pastor’s son being murdered by corrupt cops, the sermon-delivering kind man must seek justice his way after the usual ways of police and the law fail.
To do so he has to get over the hurdles of corruption that have also seeped into the media and the government.
The one person army movies and TV shows will always appeal to me. Especially when the audience underestimates the person seeking to avenge and get revenge and when the characters realize who they are dealing with. This movie turns the aforementioned up a few notches which was a great pleasure to watch.
Extremely strong performances from the cast and i loved how multi layered the story was.

PROBLEMS : There are a few moments that are overdone that took me out of the movie a few times.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½

Butchers Crossing

Bleak Butchers

PRAISE: When the character Will Andrews (Fred Hechinger) is introduced in the film with the glee of leaving the civilized world behind to experience "real" life I truly liked where the story was headed and I knew his journey into the wild would be an eye opener. As the other characters are introduced:Nicolas Cage’s character—a seasoned buffalo hunter named Miller. Fred, a cynical skinner (Jeremy Bobb) who loves to try and get a rise out of people, and Charlie (Xander Berkley) a religious and superstitious wagon driver and they in their own way try to warn Will about what's to come the story makes a solid foundation of anticipation. Linked to the characters are the ever changing realities of what they come up against and the world which also made the movie soul stirring at times. It's beautifully shot and well acted by the cast.

PROBLEMS: I definitely knew the bleakness and misery was coming but how it all played out becomes uneven. There wasn't enough focus on Wills journey as he faces the harshness of the wild countryside or what was supposed to be a harrowing journey. In fact one bleak and then some moment during the films last thirty minutes made me laugh instead of shocking me. It could have been so much better with a couple of tweaks here and there.

ran across this and i'm gonna give it a watch tonight

Lucy is an American studying in Taipei, Taiwan. Her new boyfriend Richard tricks her into working as a drug mule for a South Korean kkangpae and drug lord, and she delivers a briefcase containing four packets of the highly valuable synthetic drug CPH4 to Mr. Jang.

After witnessing Richard being shot and killed, she is captured and a bag of the drug is forcibly sewn into her abdomen in order to transport the drug to Europe. While in captivity, she is kicked in the stomach, breaking the bag and releasing a large quantity of the drug into her system. She acquires increasingly enhanced physical and mental capabilities, such as telepathy, telekinesis, mental time travel, and the ability to feel no pain. She also becomes both ruthless and emotionless. Using her new abilities, she kills her captors and escapes

Watched this one in less than 3 minutes. Fast-forward all the way. Seems like the shark(s) were only onscreen for less than a minute total. I don't know the names of any of the characters. I don't know what happened in the plot. I guess the woman playing the wife was sort of attractive. I dunno what the movie was about.

Avoid it.

That's it.

That's my review.

I don't know what to score it on a scale of 1 - 10.

I don't know why there wasn't more shark action. Not enough in the budget for effects / CGI, etc?

I enjoyed it, but I thought it was too long. so it got slow at times. It shouldn't have been 2 hours. They put some thought and effort into this, because the last few seemed like they weren't even trying. This is probably in the franchises top three.

It had some disgusting and interesting traps.

It humanizes John, and you sort of realize he's a super hero, but he's closer to Homelander than Batman.

The Creator

How did this movie cost less than $100? I just saw that trash CGI in Expendables. It's pretty incredible.

John David Washington is improving as an actor. There was good chemistry between him and Alphie.

I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. I was intrigued for much of the movie, but I was often thinking why.

I do want to see it again.

The Creator

Very Creative

PRAISE: The Creator has a dash of Terminator 2 and Blade Runner but definitely has some unique and involving story threads. The story about ex-special forces agent Joshua who is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI.
The cast including John David Washington, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson all turn in very good performances.
There was a story thread that held my interest throughout the film and I was in high anticipation to how it was going to play out. It played out in a way that was unpredictable and definitely hit all the right emotional chords.
Technically the film is incredible. Director Gareth Edward's blends beautiful landscapes with nearly flawless SFX .
From the start the story began to stack the decks when it came to the characters and their involvement which ultimately lead to a satisfying ending with tons of raw emotion.

PROBLEMS: A couple of hollow moments in which the acting was vacant.
A character was definitely in one note mode. There were definitely some predictable moments. A couple of things I couldn't get on board with that included moments when things were too convenient or unconvenient just to draw things out or try to create suspense.

SAW X

A TRUE GOREFEST

PRAISE: Tobin Bell returns in this tenth SAW movie with a story about John Kramer traveling to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure,he's hopeful but this is SAW !!
As the movie progressed into its 26 minute mark I was in high anticipation because I was awaiting things to go left and when they do it was worth the wait and I immediately began to smile.
The way the story is set up was partially the reason for my smile, because I knew revenge was coming.
Bell is as terrific as ever and it was great to see Shawnee Smith on the big screen after all these years. Praise to all of the other actors who had to endure a lot physically. The sinister characters, ultra cruelty all highly entertaining.
Sure some of what the characters are forced to and reluctantly have to do is over the top but I knew what I was in for and embraced it. When the after credits scene started playing I said wow this movie gave me everything I wanted.

PRAISE: The movie tried to explain away a couple of things but I still felt pushed into a high suspension of disbelief lane.
A couple of predictable moments at the beginning and middle of the movie.

This is a new horror/comedy that I watched last night on the road on Netflix.

If you into vampire content that follows the Bram Stoker baseline, this film is far from it. If you looking for something different, you may enjoy it.

It is a comedy. The comedy is not laugh out loud comedy, more tongue in cheek. It is gritty with satire based around events from the 1700s to present day.

Violence is graphic and better than what I was expecting. The film is a somewhat slow burn, but does flow at a decent pace just enough to keep you interested.

It’s filmed in Black/White which works perfectly with the flying scenes.

The narration is done in English which is explained in the film. The main characters speak in Chilean/Spanish thru-out the film with subtitles.

Overall, it’s a different and unique film.

Synopsis

Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet is a two-hundred-and-fifty-year-old vampire. Now tired of his life, he wants to die at last after the disgrace and family crises he has caused.
