Adolescence
One of the worst things that could happen to a family.....a parent occurs in this series that is riveting, and very effective. Who is to blame? Social media, the parents, bullies or maybe it was it just a random ,outburst of violence. .that was set off by an insult...something that is almost seen dailyThe series touches on all of the aforementioned and excellent performances from the cast make this series involving and then some. Loved how this series was filmed
Good review.
Here’s my 2 cents….
Adolescence
2025
Limited Series
7.5/10
This came up in my recommendations a couple of months ago. The Netflix preview looked interesting. I watched it on the road and finished it last night on the road on Netflix.
I only watched it cuz it’s a limited series. I have become hesitant in recent years getting involved with new series with Netflix cuz of their constant routines of cancelling good series because of their stupid algorithms. I was mainly interested in watching it cuz the previews showed actor Ashley Waters (Netflix’s Top Boy). I was curious in seeing him in something different. He has an extensive film/series catalog, but his stuff doesn’t interest me.
The series is basically an extended version of watching a “Law & Order: SVU” episode. SVU does everything in less than 40 minutes (20 minutes of commercials) with no in-depth details on how shit plays out. This series goes in-depth.
It’s 4 episodes that run about 50 minutes each. Each episode is filmed in the “One Take” format, which means you can’t take your eye off it unless you hit pause. There are lots of slow, silent scenes thru-out, this is done to give insight on the characters in the scene.
Episode One introduces the suspect, detectives and family and what the kid is charged with. It goes in-depth the arrest and booking process that you will not see in series/films.
Episode Two goes in-depth with the 2 detectives getting clues on the case. Some character development on the detectives is given and we see how the case is affecting them emotionally.
Episode Three goes in-depth on the mental evaluation of the kid. Again we see how it affects the psychologist emotionally and mentally.
Episode Four goes in-depth on how the case is affecting the kids family.
The series does bring up questions about bullying, parenting and other social/cultural issues revolving on how adults interact with children. It’s not done in a preachy way, but is presented in a way for you to put some thought into it.
Overall, it’s a depressing series. Highly advise watching it when you are in a good mood. I also recommend watching it with subtitles, it’s from England but it ain’t like watching “Harry Potter” or “Bridgerton”. If you are familiar with British people and listen to them talk amongst themselves, it’s like listening to a foreign language cuz of their thick accent and heavy use of British slang. They ain’t talking “The King’s English” in this series.
I can see the series getting a number of award nominations.
