Just watched it and enjoyed it, looks like this is my 1st Paramount+ original show

Right on - glad you enjoyed it. Thought it was pretty good too (checked it out earlier this evening).

Current rotation = Dark Winds / 1923 / MobLand / Gemstones. Starting up Dope Thief too.

Gonna be adding Gangs of London (season 3) shortly. Have it saved in a folder.

Sounds good. I know what you mean about the March releases. Trying to get through a few of these (and The Pitt and Reacher in full eventually) before Hacks and Godfather of Harlem return in April.

I haven't heard of The Leopard, and Amir Da Minha Vida. I will Google them.

My mom and her boyfriend have been watching and enjoying Deli Boys. Heard some good reviews from the entertainment podcasters about it too.

Yeah and I've liked the 4 eps of Dope Thief so far, before March the only Apple show I ever watched was WeCrashed but now for March I'm watching 2 more with Dope Thief and The Studio and will likely watch 2 more of their new shows in April with Your Friends & Neighbors and Careme.

Gonna start The Studio later this spring. Gave the first 10 - 15 minutes a look and liked the fast pacing.

Dope Thief's premiere was solid.

In regards to Apple+ ... I can vouch for all of the following ---

- Shantaram - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shantaram_(TV_series) - great assortment of characters. Recommended it to a few people, and know a few people who have also read the book (900+ pages)

- The Serpent - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Serpent_(TV_series) - Really captures that era / vibe well. Good tension / suspense throughout. Only 1 season.

- Black Bird - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Bird_(miniseries) - Great acting from Paul Walter Hauser. My mom was even quoting some of his creepy lines from it months after it aired, lol

- Shrinking - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrinking_(TV_series) - 2 seasons so far, and really found its niche in season 2. Especially with the character development and knowing the quirks amongst their interactions.

Mobland

I'm definitely getting a Ray Donovan vibe from this show with a blend of Pierce Brosnans Liam character from The Foreigner. Things are definitely not what they seem in some story threads and that's part of the bloody fun

@joneblaze

Interesting side note -

Premise

The Harrigans, a London crime family, find themselves in a battle with the Stevensons that could end empires and their lives. Harry Da Souza is called upon by the Harrigans to be their "fixer" and to protect their family.

I watched The Serpent before it was licensed to Apple and yeah it was really good, I'm also a history buff and that era with hippie trail in the 1970s was always interesting to me, the cast did really well here. I'll add Shantaram to the backlog

Nice. That's right - looking at Wiki - it was a co-promotion between BBC One and Netflix. Solid series.

As for Shantaram ... what really worked for it was the world building. They had enough time to tell the story too (12 eps) given the length of the book. I'm tempted to give it a read at some point, or check for the audiobook.

Looks interesting.

I just can’t get into it now.

I got a ton of shit going on now and they are about to drop next month and June a ton of shit that I watch.

The good thing is a lot of stuff I’m into they are doing their Final Seasons this year.

I’m trying not to get myself sucked into new stuff right now and hopefully will get caught up on stuff I haven’t got time to watch.

I’m hoping to get start on “Mayor of Kingstown” later this year.

It’s crazy, I remember the days when there wasn’t jack shit to watch on TV, now there are a zillion good programs dropping every month.

I now see why a lot of Americans have quit going to work.

HaHa!!!

Just mark it down on the list. I know what you mean. There's way more TV series choices than movies these days.

I find the best strategy is to just slowly chip away at stuff.

If possible, keep a 64GB or 128GB flashdrive stocked up.

Zero Day
2025

7/10

This limited series debuted recently and I started and finished it up last night at home on Netflix.

I only watched it cuz it’s listed as a Limited Series. I’m hesitant to get into anything new on Netflix cuz of their constant routine of cancelling good series.

This is mainly a Conspiracy series. So if you are a true Conspiracy Head, this series is for you.

Not going to go into detail to spoil it. But the series does get you thinking on what’s currently going on in today’s Washington politics, especially with what Trump/Elon Musk are doing with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).

The ending does a good wrap. It does get a little preachy at the end mainly focusing on one side of the issue. But it gets its main point across.

The only question I still had was with the NSA “Project Proteus”. It was brought up and questions came up about it, but no definitive answers were given. I suspect this was done purposely and not a “plot hole” and might be setting things up for a future series or film’s that Netflix might have in development. We will have to wait and see.

Overall, it’s an interesting series. Nothing spectacular, but like I said, it will get you thinking.

Synopsis

Superman (Original Fleischer Studios Restoration)
1941

8/10

I have been sitting on these for a couple of years on my tubi list and finally watched them this morning at home on tubi.

These are the original Superman serials shown in theaters prior to main theatrical feature. Back in the day prior to the film debuting, people would see animated shorts, live action serials, News reels, coming attractions and other things instead of just sitting in a theater listening to “elevator” music like nowadays. These episodes were mainly believed to be lost until they were discovered in the late 1990s and originally released on VHS/DVD. These are the first restorations. They have since been restored using new techniques and presented in 4K UHD and better sound. tubi has those listed as “Superman: The Lost Episodes”.

There were only 17 episodes made. Each toon runs about 10 minutes each, tubi has them grouped in 3 for a total of four. Each opening has the classic line’s referencing Superman that everyone knows. Some episodes give a quick narrative of on his abilities in the opening.

The first episode gives a quick origin of Superman within a minute. Villains Superman interacts with are mainly Mad Scientists and Hooded crooks. No super powered beings. There are some bad guys who do come off as inspirations for future DC villains like “Brainwave” and “Gorilla Grodd” and other classic villains. There is one episode that surprised me with Superman in an Egyptian tomb and the Egyptians were depicted as “Black Men” with Black features and dark skin. You expect them to be depicted as “White” during the time period this was made. A Native American bad guy is introduced. There are some racist and propaganda stuff laced thru out the series.

Superman is wearing the classic original suit with the “S” over a black ground and yellow trim. One interesting episode shows Superman being affected by tear gas. Thru-out the serials you do see Superman being affected by things that you don’t see in today’s version. Clark Kent is shown once changing into Superman in a telephone booth.

Clark Kent is shown being “Mild Mannered”, cool and relaxed. This is where George Reeves obviously modeled his version when he did the live action serials in the 1950s.

Animation is pretty clean, especially with how Superman moves around. Disney at the time was at the top of list in animation style/presentation until the Japanese stepped it up in the early 1960s.

What you will also notice watching the episodes is how it definitely influenced future comic writers in Marvel/DC, along with Sci-Fi movie directors like George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg and others.

Synopsis

The Fleischer Superman cartoons are a series of seventeen animated superhero short films released in Technicolor by Paramount Pictures and based upon the comic book character Superman, making them his first animated appearance.

Paradise
2025

8.5/10

Sometime late last year, a teaser popped up when I was watching something on Hulu. It looked interesting when the actor who plays POTUS talked about JFK assassination, Bigfoot and Aliens in the small clip. It struck my interest so I looked it up at the time and all I had found was that it was a murder mystery series. I immediately lost interest and forgot about it.

Last month in my YouTube recommendations a video popped up on the series with some mofo giving his theory on “The Disaster”. That’s when I discovered there was more to this series.

I decided to just watch the pilot episode last week when I was home the night before returning to work and just before going to bed. It played out ok and was interesting and I was slowly losing interest…..until the last scene played and I was immediately hooked. I watched the 2nd episode immediately and had to force myself to turn it off cuz my Ass would have stayed up all night watching the full season. HaHa!!!

Not gonna go into details cuz I don’t wanna spoil it. The series revolves around a Doomsday event that affected the entire world. That’s as far as I will go.

If you are a Conspiracy Head, this series is for you. You will not be disappointed with the suspense and twists that play out.

Sterling K. Brown stars in it. This cat’s performance in the series is straight on point. He keeps your eyes on screen with how he does his character in every scene. Whoever cast him knocked it out the park.

The series has been renewed for a season 2 already. Good chance it won’t debut until 2027 or later.

Definitely looking forward to it.

Synopsis

The series follows United States Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. (Brown) as he seeks to discover the truth behind the killing of the President of the United States. As Xavier comes under suspicion for President Bradford's death, he searches for answers about what really happened, and is unsure of whom he can trust as his questions lead to many shocking revelations.
