Nature is indifferent and unforgiving. Life eats life. It’s a never-ending struggle to stay alive, whether you are the aggressor in this photo or the victim. The hardships animals face on a daily basis speaks to their resilience, and their ability to overcome these obstacles ensures that only the very best genetics are passed on to future generations. Survival is grueling, and difficulty breeds excellence.

Live in B.C. ... pops had a bear walk down his front street a few years back one afternoon. He said he was out in the yard, and was like WTF and quickly went inside and called the right number(s) to report the sighting. Haven't seen any bears personally, but a number of foxes & coyotes the past decade.

I've been in woods where black bears were reported to roam, but I didn't see one and didn't want to. I don't think I'd ever be out in the open where grizzly, or polar bears were known to be present.

Yeah - he said it was pretty unnerving. Especially on a residential street a reasonable distance from any trails/woods. 3 years back there were some cougar sightings on a neighboring city's local skytrain tracks. I've stood near the bench on the middle-right portion of the Youtube clip a number of times. Damn.

I had a friend that lived outside Denver and he said he saw a couple mountain lions in his neighborhood. He told me they cleaned out an over population of raccoons that had been raiding suburban trash dumpsters. When the raccoons dropped off the cougars move on.

Damn. Fresh meals for awhile, and then they were out.

That's how it works. We have coyotes move through my neighborhoods every couple years. They do the same thing but mostly with rabbits.

My mom's area (Victoria, B.C.) gets a fair amount of rabbits. Some local parks, etc. Lots of fresh meals for the coyotes.

I was driving home one weekend morning, and noticed a few dog walkers moving quickly and shielding their small dogs. Turns out a young fox was sizing them up from across the way and in semi-sprint.
