Leopard up in his happy place with a recently deceased baboon. Unlike the other big cats in Africa, leopards prefer to hunt and eat alone. They harvest a wide range of prey animals to satisfy their needs, and in certain territories one that ranks high on their menu is baboons. These primates are very strong, and when they are in large groups they pose a real threat to a lone hunter like our leopard here - any moderate to severe injury could result in a slow agonizing death if the cat is unable to feed itself. A lone leopard with young need be very cautious around them, as baboons will seek out and kill every leopard cub they can get their hands on. However, these scary looking primates will only attack a full grown leopard when they are out of options, most times they rely on their numbers and the exaggeration of their aggressive nature to deter an attack. That all goes out the window at night. Baboons are not able to see very well in low light conditions, making it almost too easy for the cat for select a straggler and drop the troop number by one.

A hyena with her face inside a doomed wildebeest. Spotted hyenas are misrepresented as the sneaky thief of the african wild. The truth is, they are excellent hunters who kill the majority (up to 75%) of the prey they eat. Sure, if the opportunity to grab an easy meal presents itself they will take it - but so would every other predator on the plains. Their bite force is roughly 1000lb per square inch (psi) which they put to good use, chewing, breaking and crushing up even the bones of their prey. They are not above scavenging, in fact they can smell the decaying flesh of a corpse from up to 2.5 miles (4km) away.

This is the dramatic moment a genius otter being chased by a killer whale hops onto a boat for safety with just seconds to spare. In the incredible footage, captured in Halibut Cove, Alaska, on Sunday July 26, the otter is first seen roughly 200yds away from John Dornellas’ boat, swimming frantically as the orca follows. As it reaches John’s boat the otter swims around the outside, looking for a safe haven to climb onto as the orca closes in. Eventually, the otter jumps up onto the transom of John’s vessel moments before the whale arrives at the surface just feet away. John, 37, revealed a game of cat-and-mouse followed, with the otter hopping back into the water in an attempt to get away, only for the orca to chase it back up again three or four times. His fellow captain, Chantrelle Major, also filmed the moment from her vessel nearby, with the orca then circling John’s boat in search of the otter. Eventually, once the orca had distanced itself from the boat, John, working with Coldwater Alaska, an exploration company providing boat trips in the area, headed for his next pickup in Halibut Cove Lagoon and when at a safe distance the otter plunged safely into the water. John later discovered the orca, ID number AT163, was the largest in its pod.

what douchebag approved this? Tha fuck man?

Agreed. Just think about the number of people & cars that are hit, or nearly hit, each year the world over.

Let alone elephants & other animals trying to gauge speed(s) in that habitat.

  • Images show dangers elephants in Indian forest face after train lines were built
  • Dozens of elephants are killed every year after being hit by speeding trains
  • Photographer Rupak Dastidar said: 'The train track has turned out to be a graveyard for wild elephants with more than 90 of them being killed'

Nature is indifferent and unforgiving. Life eats life. It’s a never-ending struggle to stay alive, whether you are the aggressor in this photo or the victim. The hardships animals face on a daily basis speaks to their resilience, and their ability to overcome these obstacles ensures that only the very best genetics are passed on to future generations. Survival is grueling, and difficulty breeds excellence.

Man this is happening all around us. I watch birds, lizards, fish, and insects on occasion in or near my backyard and see what would be epic battles if they were just larger creatures. Nature is ruthless.
