I’m never buying a house in Florida
Easy, me and my moms are from NC, dad is from St. Petersburg, Fl. I think I said before that I've been through many bad thunderstorms and hurricanes down there. Grandma's house was across from the Salt Creek which I never seen it rise above 2 or 3 feet from the front step in the 70's and 80's. My aunt told me that the past hurricane Helen and Milton flooded the house and the water was waist deep. Shit is inconceivable since I use to play in the aftermath of those thunderstorms.

I have a co-worker that works remotely in FL.
She told me that after her dad dies, she's packing up,...selling the house, and moving back to Harlem.
She can't stand FL cuz of all the hurricanes...it's costed her tens of thousands of dollars every year.

Are the property taxes and insurance really that high now?

Median property tax in Florida is $1,773.00 per year for a home worth the median value of $182,400.00.
So for those with $300k-400k homes, they are pretty much paying double that.
Homeowners insurance and flood insurance are separate purchases.......but its not that much.
Some people would just rather keep that additional money in their pocket. Flood insurance thru NFIP is usually around $65 a month or $781 a year.

Im seeing stories that after the great migration and all the house prices went up, that in 2023 after properties were re-assesses the property taxes are up to like 5-6k and after all the storms insurance is about the same.

I looked at a couple properties in the Tampa area and the taxes are up significantly
