I find it amazing how many ppl keep trying to use the "oh it's a prop gun." logic as an excuse. The fact of the matter is, if it has the ability to fire then it's a real gun and should be treated as such. Respect the weapon, exercise proper gun safety and things like this won't happen.
Latest update says he was practicing his draw when it went off. Nothing wrong with practicing your draw but why was he doing it with people in the line of sight and why was his finger on the trigger? That's inexcusable negligence and violation of the most important gun safety rule.
I agree with you 100%, but I am a gun enthusiast. You probably know how often we see pics of people holding guns and their finger is inside the trigger guard on the trigger....just to take a fucking picture.
The armorer is specifically hired for gun safety on a set. That is where the fault clearly lies. They are the one who is supposed to make sure no live rounds are EVEN ON THE SET. They are the ones responsible for making sure the actors conduct themselves in a safe manner when handling guns. They are the ones responsible for checking the gun before it is handed off to anyone.....
The armorer should assume that NO ONE on the set has gun training and work based on that premise. They should stress that ALL guns should treated as if they are loaded at ALL Times.
And like you said....prop gun doesn't mean shit..... Unless it is a 'starter pistol'; then it can shoot blanks AND bullets....there is no reason a real live round should even be on the set...NONE.
I can watch a person check a gun for safety right in front of me and then hand it to me and I will immediately recheck the weapon to satisfy myself that it is clear.....that is just how it should be done.
