I'm considering grabbing a pass, is it worth it in your opinion? Or is there another service that's better? I'm new at all this. Any help would be appreciated.

Plex pass was worth it for me cause is been 10 years later
Hardware transcoding, skip tv show intros
If you can find a deal for it

Try the service first is free
You don’t need plex pass
Plex pass only gets you extra features

You can use plex , share with family , all free

I guess jellyfin or fish is like Apple & android

Plex being Apple , looks nice , not a lot of settings and just works
If you want to play around with lots of settings and I think is open source I’m not sure, go with jellyfish/fin,

If you plan to share your plex server with friends and family , plex is much easier for everyone, I think
I have never used jelly I just heard

Good looking out. I gonna grab the pass. $100 bones aint much for basically having your own streaming service, and you can share! No brainer for me now. Getting all my media named properly first. lol, its a task but I did try Plex for a min but all my media was named all outta wack so I said bump it and I'm gonna get organized and rename everything. I'm also using tiny media manager.

Appreciate the feedback.

I'm thinking about getting that plexpass.

But here's the thing, I got a lot of physical DVDs from years ago that I want to rip transferring them to Plex. I found something called plexcopier that let's you rip physical DVDs transferring them to Plex to stream.

I use this to rip DVDs and bluerays. It's free. He releases a code every couple a months to give you free access. I'v been using it for over 10 years now.

I'm on a mission to do that as well.
J, don't make the mistake I made though. I should have grabbed a dual threat in case I run into blu rays. They cost a bit more but having the capability to rip more than one type is worth it. Doesn't have to be this one, but I recommend future proofing yourself bra.

I've seen some they have a Blu-ray where you can rip more than one DVD but that shit cost like $300 or more depending how many DVDs you want to rip at the same time.

I'm gonna post the link to show you what I'm talking about.

Instead of ripping dvds is better to just download the shit from torrents
Invest that movie in a vpn subscription and download your fav. Shows and movies

For tv shows I recommend this uploader

I get all my old tv shows from his uploads

Unless your dvd is something rare or family movies , just download them

People still use plex? Why its the worst for privacy and generally is bloated and not a worthwhile setup anymore. You can setup Jellyfin/Sonarr/Radarr in docker and everything is private behind a vpn or your network.

I'll make sure to do that as well, if they don't have the movie that I have on a physical DVD is when I'll just rip those only.

I like my rips uncompressed and I only do BluRay UHD rips these days. Downloading 80GB files is more hassle than ripping even though I have gigabit internet. For old tv shows, I just like owning the media, and ripping is not that big a deal really.

@BigDaddyBuk I got the pass. Got a feeling it may either go up or become monthly. How many people can share a pass? I am reorganizing everything almost ready to start Plex up right this time.

You can setup plex home and add people to that with their own account login
And they can benefit from your plex pass
But I would only do this if the other person is close family in the same house

Otherwise just add people as normal friends and they can see and play your movies , they would need their own plex pass though

Most people who you share your server with won’t care about plex pass and the benefits , just add them as friends

Here they explain the difference here between plex home & friends

Plex home is more like account switching like Netflix has or Disney app when you first open
I would only use plex home if the person is in the same house
